An eyeshield is a piece of football equipment. It is a visor that attaches to the football helmet of a football player to protect the eyes. It leaves the mouth exposed and covers the eyes and nose. Most are a dark, non reflective material and, though not standard, many are dark green.
The anime/manga Eyeshield 21 used it as a plot device (which the manga is named for).
