Sharazad, a young scholar, joins the mad sultan's harem in place of his sister, Dunya. Each night the sultan rapes a virgin, and at daybreak he beheads her. When the sultan discovers Sharazad is in fact a man, Shrazad agrees to tell him a story. If he does not enjoy it, he will be free to kill him by daybreak. Over the course of the story we discover what cause the sultan to go mad and kill the girls in his harem.
