The Bondi Raiders Gridiron Club were formed in 1984, however the club was originally known as the Waverley Raiders. They competed in the first year of organized Gridiron in NSW as members of the Australian American Football League. Stephen Jones and Wes McGrath were instrumental in the birth of the Raiders and worked tirelessly to develop the club in Sydney, Australia. The first Head Coach of the Raiders was Fred Burson, ably assisted by ex-Canadian Football player and coach Carmen Fillmore. In 1985 Fred and wife Melba along with daughter Janice, began to import football equipment into Australia thereby offering the chance for players around the country to purchase equipment from a Sydney based outlet. This saw the sport grow rapidly on a national level.

Since 1984, The Raiders have won 10 State Championships in NSW and had numerous players represent NSW and Australia as players, coaches and administrators.

The Raiders' junior team the Bondi Storm, compete in the NSW junior competition.
