Paule Constable is a British lighting designer who won the 2005 & 2006 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Lighting Design.

The Street of Crocodiles was Paule's first major professional engagement as Lighting Designer and so, in many ways, her career began with Complicite. Paule has continued to work with members of the Company; with Annabel Arden (The Magic Flute and La Traviata at Opera North; The Miserly Knight and Gianni Schicci at Glyndebourne) and with Kathryn Hunter (The Glory of Living at the Royal Court). Complicite's collaborative style encouraged Paule to develop a similar process in her own work and she has several long-standing relationships with individual theatre directors. For Katie Mitchell she has lit The Mysteries, Beckett Shorts, Uncle Vanya (RSC); Don Giovanni, Katya Kabanova (WNO); The Country, Night Songs, Forty Winks (Royal Court); Ivanov, Three Sisters (NT). With Neil Bartlett, A Christmas Carol, The Servant , Oliver, Pericles (Lyric Hammersmith); The Dispute, The Prince of Homberg (RSC/Lyric Hammersmith). With Ian Rickson, KRAPPS LAST TAPE, The Wier, Dublin Carol, Boy Gets Girl (Royal Court). For David McVicar, CLEMENZA DI TITO, Manon, Alcina, Rape of Lucretia, Tosca (ENO); ROSENKAVALIAR, Sweeny Todd, Don Giovanni (Opera North); Fidelio (New Zealand Festival); Madam Butterfly (Scottish Opera); Rigoletto, The Magic Flute, Faust (Royal Opera House); La Boheme, Carmen, Giulio Cesare (Glyndebourne); Agripinna (La Monnaie), Tales of Hoffman (Salzburg Festival). With Tim Supple, More Grimm Tales, Jungle Book, Omma, Twelfth Night, As I Lay Dying, Slab Boys Trilogy (Young Vic); Tales of Ovid (RSC); Haroun and the Sea of Stories, Villains Opera, Romeo and Juliet (NT). Other productions include DON CARLOS (SHEFFIELD CRUCIBLE AND WEST END), MOON FOR THE BISBEGOTTEN (OLD VIC), EVITA (WEST END), THE CUT, Proof, Little Foxes (Donmar Warehouse); The Seagull (RSC); PAUL. SOUTHWARK FAIR, CORAM BOY, Darker Face of the Earth, Peer Gynt, Play Without Words, His Dark Materials, The House of Bernarda Alba (NT); Macbeth, The Cunning Little Vixen (Royal Opera House); COSI FAN TUTTI (GLYNDEBOURNE). Awards include the LA Critics Circle Award 1999 for Amadeus, THE 2006 OLIVIER AWARD FOR BEST LIGHTING FOR DON CARLOS, THE 2006 HOSPITAL AWARD FOR THEATRE AND THE 2005 Olivier Award for Best Lighting for His Dark Materials. PAULE IS A TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE OF THE NATIONAL THEATRE.
