Pacesetters
I'm 99% sure that the correct name of the band was "Pacesetters", not "The Pacemakers".
In George Clinton and P-Funk: An Oral History, Bootsy Collins says "We were a local band called Pacesetters that had become the house band for King Records" (page 66). I'll try to find other sources about the name of the band.
