My grand-father, a German officer on Guernsey, reported to me that he spoke to the only German survivor of this raid, except the soldier who was captured. This soldier, a "Pionier" from Guernsey, reported that the prisoners wanted to escape by running away at the same time. They fell into barbered wire and were shot.
