Tioga downs is a quarterhorse racetrack opened in 1976 in Nichols, NY which closed down a few years after opening due to decreased popularity. Originally known as Tioga Park it reopened in the year 2006 as Tioga Downs.

Revival

The racetrack has now been revived and completely refinished. It is now a harness racing track. It reopened June 9, 2006 with its first race starting at 6:50p.m. The racetrack boasted over fifteen thousand visitors the first weekend. It is now offering in addition to harness racing, Simulcast betting from other tracks, and Video Lottery Terminals also known as VLTs which are commissioned by New York State. It is co-owned by Trackpower, Southern Tier Acquisitions LLC, and Tioga Downs LLC. Trackpower is a publicly traded pink sheet stock OTCBB: TPWR.

Economic Impact

Property taxes have now increased due to this new business in Tioga County. Over 400 jobs have been created by the racetrack. The track is estimated to pump $42 million dollars per year into Tioga County's economy.
