History

Newburgh was a dynamo. A walk down any street will show that; even debilitated, barren homes were once the beautiful residences of a prosperous city. Most living people are ignorant of the great docks that studded the shore upon which goods were shipped from the ports of the world into the Ohio Valley (and visa verse), ships were built, passengers were transported from Newburgh to the world (and visa verse). Plank and toll roads fanned out from Newburgh, playing a huge part in the settlement of Western New York and what used to be the Western Reserve. In order to have fallen so far, the apex must have been high. The history section of the article is thin indeed, perfunctory, and doesn't impart that past dynamism. The section on just the fire department revivals the whole history section, for gosh sakes. Instead of describing the importance of this great city, the article is mired in recent politics. At least a few pre-1900 historical figures made it into the notable people list. Wordreader (talk) 06:16, 22 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sir or Madam:

I would like to thank you very much for maintaining the Wikipedia along with the interesting information and facts about Newburgh. I found it both knowledgeable and enlightening. However, in your sports section I saw no mention of the boy’s track team who has won 10 National Championships and over 20 state championships while, producing over 90 track and Field High School All Americans. The boys track teams Alumni’s who moved on to completion higher include: Randy Patterson (Class of 2010 at Mississippi State), Aaron Steele (Class of 2007 Florida State University) Jarrell Warren (Class of 2006 Oklahoma State University), David Mc Fadgen III (Class of 2006 North Carolina A&T University), and Samry Laine (Class of 2002 Harvard University, University of Texas, and Georgetown University of Law Center). Samry Laine became Newburgh’s first Olympian, as he placed 10th in the triple jump during the 2012 London Olympics Games .
