Alexi Giannoulias (1968-) is the Democratic Illinois State Treasurer elect. Giannoulias defeated the endorsed candidate of the Democratic Party of Illinois Knox County state's Attorney Paul Mangieri in the March Primary, leading to winning the election in November defeating Republican State Senator Christine Radogno. He is the son of Alexis Giannoulias a Greek immigrant who founded the well known Broadway Bank in the late 1970's, the bank has been linked to giving loans to members of the mafia.
Alexi Giannoulias had not received the endorsement of Mike Madigan, chairman of the Democratic Party of Illinois.
