Cecile van der Merwe (born 16 April 1987), is a South African Woman International Master (WIM, 2004).
Biography
In 2001, in Cairo ranked 4th in African Women's Chess Championship[1]. In 2003, in Abuja ranked 2nd in African Women's Chess Championship[2]. In 2003, played for South Africa in World Girls' Junior Chess Championship and ranked 16th place[3]. In 2004 Cecile van der Merwe participated in Women's World Chess Championship by knock-out system and in the first round lost to Humpy Koneru[4].
Cecile van der Merwe played for South Africa:
- in Women's Chess Olympiad participated 4 times (2000-2004, 2012);[5]
- in Women's World Team Chess Championship participated in 2011;[6]
- in All-Africa Games chess tournament participated in 2003 and won team silver medal and individual gold medal.[7]
In 2004, she was awarded the FIDE International Women Master (WIM) title.
