At dawn all hell (metaphorical as well as literal) breaks loose and one question still has to be answered: Who's Quentin?

Production

Who's Quentin? is a gangster movie and a homage to American movie director Quentin Tarantino that has been achieved as Action 3 - European youth project. The basic ideas for the realization of a feature-length motion picture and an early, rough version of the script have been developed as early as 2002 by Sacha Bachim (Writer and Director). However, it took some time for it to evolve onto a level to be taken seriously.

By spring 2003 Claude Kremer (technical supervisor and actor) and Albert Engstfeld (assistant director and actor) had joined the project that was now ready to move on into pre-production. The time that followed was predominantly spent to assemble cast and crew, do location-scouting, get advice from professionals of the industry as well as technical experimentations.

But fund-raising proved to be tough. Neither the Film fund, nor the CNA were interested in funding the project. But, by the end of 2004, Sacha Bachim and Frederic Schwandt (executive Procucers) had come up with the possibility of funding the film through the SNJ (service national de la jeunesse).

As a group of young film-enthusiasts with no professional training, the crew from Who's Quentin? (which, in the end, employed around 70-80 young people, who were more or less involved in the development of the project) could be supported classified as youth-initiative from the European Commission. The Result is an autodidactic cooperation of a large number of youths in the field of creative film-making that covered all the aspects of this particular art form (e.g. acting, techniques, cinematography, set decoration, music, photography, publicity, etc.)

The all-around budget of the film came to about 5000-5500€, of which Brussels put in 5000€. Additional equipment such as a camera boom, camera-dolly, and a steady-cam was assembled using only the modest means of a lowbudget film production.

The pre-production phase was concluded in early 2005 after test-screenings and rehearsals had finished and the set decoration had been build. By the time, the theme song Bullets, which was written especially for the movie, was recorded, the team was ready to shoot the actual picture. Sunday, March 13th 2005 was the very first day of shooting, on location at the Kulturfabrik in Esch/Alzette. By June, most of the primary shooting was done but pick-ups stretched until October 2005. The official end of shooting was Tuesday, October 18th at the Flowers café in Bascharage.

Postproduction and the development of a marketing-campaign including poster design, flyers and the set-up of a webpage started in July 2005. It was during that time, that the video clip for Bullets was shot and a portfolio of the best publicity pictures was chosen.

"Who's Quentin?" premiered successfully on may 13th 2006 at the Utopolis cinemacomplex in Luxembourg city and thus entered the cinema of Luxembourg movie culture.

The Soundtrack, regrouping works of various Luxembourgish bands and artists was released in July 2006 and can be purchaised at http://whosquentin.com/shop_en.php
