Proposed guidelines

I'm suggesting that characters be added to the list because because of a combination of a)episode count and b)importance to the story. I believe that recurring characters (those that appear in more than one episode) should be on the list, as well as characters that are *heavily* featured in only one episode (Sesha Abinell, Commander Garner, et al).

I've added an episode count (using IMDB and BattlestarWiki as sources), to illustrate how often each character appears. I feel it is important to draw a distinction between characters that only show up three times and characters that show up twenty times. I counted the miniseries as an episode, and the webisodes as an episode. Is there an easy way to keep it up to date? Perhaps some sort of notation that says "episode count as of [Season, Episode]"?

Does this sound okay? Any other suggestions? Monsieurxander 13:07, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sounds good, Monsieurxander. Characters such as Hotdog, who appear in many episodes and, while adding little but "recognizable pilot on Galactica" elements to the story, do have numerous lines and more than just background appearances, should be on the lists. Likewise, characters like Garner and Phelan, who only appear in one episode but that episode revolves around them, should be on the list. The ones I would avoid are characters like Mr. Hoshi, who appear in multiple episodes but do very little plot-wise, and the nurse in Scattered, who is in one episode but has less than a very central part in the story, should remain off the list. The paramedic/nurse in Scattered recurs several times, the last time (so far) in "Downloaded." Just thought I'd nitpick a bit. ;-) Seriously, I'm still on the fence about the status of characters like Hoshi and the paramedic (Several of Hoshi's appearances come with no dialogue). • Some characters are significant without being heavily featured, like the Cylon Hybrid, which is the heart of a Basestar... 132.205.44.128 06:19, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You're right. I added the Hybrid to the list both because she's an important part of the story, and because, as a Cylon, she's expected to recur. Monsieurxander 12:20, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I object to characters that appear in more than one episode appearing on this list. Actually, I guess I object to the list name more than anything else. If it's "recurring" characters, we can't include characters from single episodes. If we want to include prominent single-episode characters, the list should be moved back to "minor". Minor doesn't mean completely insignificant. A character like Abinell is significant to one episode, but minor to the entire series. -- Fru1tbat 13:16, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, re: list name. "Minor" seems to fit better. I don't think any of these characters have passed the 20 episode mark, and, by my count, 42 episodes have aired (including the miniseries and the webisodes). I agree that "minor" doesn't mean they can't have a significant impact. Monsieurxander 06:23, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cylon versions

I've added Cylon versions of each model that are significant or recurring, without being a main or major character. I should note that each version of each model *is* a different character, the same way that fictional twins are two characters and not one.

Though, shouldn't the Season Three Number Three be a major character? (She's listed as New Caprica Leader Three, here, for wont of a better title) I think she might be good to go to the Regular Characters template.

  • D'Anna Biers - one episode, major focus of episode
  • Armistice Station Six - one of the most memorable scenes... because it is a statement of how the new BSG is different from the old.
  • Shelley Godfrey - major plotpoint for an episode
  • Gina - featured over several episodes.

I have not listed Sharon Agathon or Sharon Valerii, as they are both regular characters. This also applies to Caprica Six and Six in Baltar's Head.

List of incidental characters with apparent import

This is a list of suggestions for characters that might make the list, but are borderline in such cases.

  • Admiral Nagala - Fleet Admiral of Colonial Forces after the fall of Picon Fleet Headquarters, aboard Battlestar Atlantia, died with the loss of Atlantia.
  • Admiral Cormer - orders BSG41 (Battlestar Valkyrie) and Commander Adama to a Stealthstar to penetrate the Armistice Line.

I think it's a good idea, though I didn't propose it, I just created this discussion area. Zyxwvutsrqp 23:49, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For which I thank you. CovenantD 23:57, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely merge. Both with Kacey and every other minor character. Monsieurxander 12:21, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think you'll get into trouble merging say Colonel Fisk, Admiral Cain, etc. 132.205.93.19 02:53, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Merge. User:BalthCat / 156.34.229.172 05:00, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose the Jack Fisk article is fairly large and comprehensive. It would not merge well. 132.205.44.134 00:27, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
