Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by VoABot (talk | contribs) at 17:01, 5 April 2007 (BOT - Archiving 17 completed request(s).). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

 Not done We generally don't encourage usernames that are copyrighted/trademarked names. =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:27, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Glampers → `Trivia

'Trivia might be confused for User:Trivia. Incidently User:Trivia is available for usurpation. You can put up a request on WP:CHU/U =Nichalp «Talk»= 15:23, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Um, your username really shouldn't look like a business name, that may be interpreted as spam--VectorPotentialTalk 02:19, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose change. This user's activities on Wikipedia so far have clearly been designed to promote a business. I would support a change to a more personal name, but not a more professional one. --Elonka 19:14, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

 Not done per above. =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:27, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

 Not done =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:27, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bbmcanada → BBM Canada

Clerk note: username policy presently classes "Usernames that promote a company" as inappropriate- Usernames of or closely resembling the names of companies and groups are discouraged. WjBscribe 19:07, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

 Not done per above. =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:27, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Peter J. Moore → Zatoichi75

 Clerk note:A similar account, Zatoichi77, exists. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 02:31, 28 March 2007 (UTC)  Not done =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:27, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Killaruna → Bangin

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. However, as this requested account has made no edits, it meets the criteria for being usurped; if you are an established user and wish to usurp it, please read and follow the process at m:Steward requests/Username changes. If you do not wish to usurp the username, please choose another name to be renamed to. --NickContact/Contribs 22:45, 28 March 2007 (UTC)  Not done =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:27, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As a quick word of advice, I don't think your new name will be allowed as it would be considered advertising. Gretnagod 17:51, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Patience is a virtue! Your name is too similar to the name of a company. =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:27, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

HacknMod → Joe426

Note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:Listusers. However, this requested account meets the criteria for being usurped; if you wish to usurp it, please read and follow the process at Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations. If you do not wish to usurp the username, please choose another name to be renamed to. --NickContact/Contribs 23:41, 1 April 2007 (UTC)  Not done =Nichalp «Talk»= 14:55, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Teabing-Leigh → MantOliveS

  • Current name: Teabing-Leigh (talk contribs)
  • Requested name: MantOliveS (change username)
  • Reason: I am told, and I tend to agree as a lawyer, that my current name violates the Wikipedia username policy for not using names of famous fictional characters. There I request my name be changed from Teabing-Leigh only if it is held that my name does indeed violate the Wiki Username policy. Teabing-Leigh 15:00, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not done. Please clear yourself of the sockpuppet charge first =Nichalp «Talk»= 15:31, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:Listusers. Please choose another name. --NickContact/Contribs 17:42, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CURRENT.STONECOLDSTEVEAUSTIN → NEW.BOGUSID

Clerk note: I would have fixed the template, but both names are entered in all caps. The current name is not all caps, it reads StoneColdSteveAustin, so I assume the requested name should be "Bogusid" rather than "BOGUSID". Message left on the user's talk page asking them to come clarify. --NickContact/Contribs 17:37, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiencyclopedia.com → Knowledge_lover1123

Feralfighter → Rramphal

Ootmc → Wikizilla

Clerk note: Wikizilla is likely in violation of WP:USERNAME as misleading or implying association with either Wikimedia or Mozilla. Ootmc: I'd ask that you select a different username. AmiDaniel (talk) 21:00, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Awnh040955 → A a 50 oldie

Id Rather Be Hated For Who I Am, Than Loved For Who I Am Not → Mr Richardson

Supergolden → Edward Waverley

WikiJudge → WikipediaFan98

Clerk note: This request was made after it was pointed out to the user that the term "WikiJudge" is likely to be incompatible with our username policy. It was originally made at WP:CHU/U [1] but I have move it here as the account is not taken. Note that use of "Wikipedia" in usernames has also proved controversial, though in this case the addition of "Fan" may well mitigate this. WjBscribe 17:32, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Zordon_!s_Evi1 → Zordon_is_Evil

Clerk note: This request was made on WP:CHU/U by the current username. The requested name is not taken, however a similar name, "ZordoniseviI." (note the final letter is a capital i, not a lowercase L), exists, but was created in August 2006 and has never been used, so there is no real risk of impersonation. --NickContact/Contribs 17:38, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Realalternatives → Real Alternatives

Prateeksharma23 → The Chameleon

The requested username is already registered; see Special:Listusers. However, this requested account meets the criteria for being usurped; if you wish to usurp it, please read and follow the process at Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations. If you do not wish to usurp the username, please choose another name to be renamed to. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TeckWiz (talkcontribs)

Ootmc → Eternal_Guitarist

Darkest Hour → Razorclaw

  • Current name: Darkest Hour (talk contribs)
  • Requested name: Razorclaw (change username)
  • Reasons: I named myself after a book. I made up the new name. Also I like having no space in my name. It's a fun name.
  • Question: Can all my subpages be moved with my name with one click or will I have to do it by hand?

Freeleonardpeltier → Bobthebob2007

Clerk note: The above unsigned request was added by the account requesting the rename. WjBscribe 03:40, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blckdmnd99 → -DjD-

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. Please choose another name which is not already in use.

Further Note: The name is not just "taken" because you moved your userpage to User:DjD, this account was created in the past and has contributions from back in September. As such, it is my personal opinion (however not based on policy) that you should probably move your userpage and usertalk back to their old locations. This user may decide to return to Wikipedia and it would be an unpleasant shock if they found another user had taken over their user space. --NickContact/Contribs 03:33, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Reply: Thanks for the clarification. The username '-DjD-' appears to be available if i'm reading this right. Can I change to this instead? Thanks again. Blckdmnd99 04:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Template edited accordingly. The new name is a little similar but not taken, and because the account hasn't been used since September 06, there's really no risk of impersonation. --NickContact/Contribs 04:08, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
