Gate Keepers is a Japanese anime series.

The plot occurs in 1969, where alien invaders are planning to take over the Earth by sending numerous robotic aliens, and turning some of the people into robotic minions as well.

In order to confront them and defend the planet, a special group of peace-keepers called A.E.G.I.S. gather mutant youngsters, Gate Keepers, who have the power to open dimensional "gates" of a paranormal energy that give them special powers.

The series is concentrated on Shun Ukiya, a young Japanese schoolboy (who permanently wears a bandage over his nose) who is condiscovers that he is a Gate Keeper when he is being contacted by A.E.G.I.S.. In the team, he discovers his childhood friend, Ruriko Isegawa.

Him and Ruriko then go through Japan to find other Gate Keepers, such as Reiko the absent-minded pianist (who uses her gate power to play enchanting music), Kaoru the tomboyish sprinter (who uses her gate power to obtain super-strength) or Megumi the cold bookworm (who uses her gate power to create force-fields).

The Gate Keepers shall fight numerous robotic aliens, who look like pale humans wearing sunglasses, fedoras and suitcases. Those "invaders" usually attack by combining their bodies into some giant robotic monster, and its weak point is the only red invader (who can be noticed from all the others who are black).

The invasion is led by Count Devil, a diabolical green alien who has the power to control minds, and the army is led by General Machine, a cyborg military who has the power to control machines.

Those villains are assisted by a human Gate Keeper traitor, Reiji Kageyama, who uses his gate power to get destructive shadow energy.
