Itanium

This is a self-nomination: I consolidated the information from three articles and substantially re-wrote the article. I believe that this article may meet the Featured Article Criteria. I also believe that the subject matter is highly important, as Itanium played a large role in the shape of the computer industry in the 1990's and 2000's. -Arch dude 02:29, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

COMMENT: On resolution of the comments, I shall support the article. well written currently but needs clean-up. (Numbered comments by Kalyan , sub-bulleted responses by Arch dude)
  1. the opening para is misleading on the company that developed the arch. please modify to ensure that credit for the arch development is given to both Intel and HP.
    • repaired.
  2. "HP and Intel initiated a three-year development effort." - what is the start and end date? 1994? to 1997?
    • rewritten.
  3. "By 1997, it was apparent that the IA-64 architecture and the compiler were much more difficult to implement than originally thought, and the delivery of the first processor, codenamed Merced, began slipping quarter by quarter". I think you need to provide a brief desc on the challenges. dont need it to be technical.
    • added several sentences.
  4. mention the codename in the opening para.
    • The subject of Intel codenames is complex. I modified tha article to link to List of Intel codenames where appropriate, and I modifed the linked article.
  5. "As of March 2007, Intel has released seven additional versions of the Itanium 2, and another is expected in late 2007." Need details on this.
    • I added internal article links to the appropriae sections of this article.
  6. KiB is not a generic term used. please provide expanstion or link to wiki article.
    • This is a contentious subject within the Wikipedia technical community. I have added links for KiB and MiB.
  7. hardware support section needs a list of servers (partial at least) that is based on the itanium processor. better still, if you combine the product road map and the server products, this comment can be waived off.
    • Added table.
  8. need to replace the itanium logo with a higher resolution image.
    • Yes. I was blindsided by this issue: the "correct" image for the infobox is a picture of the proicessor, not a logo. Unfortunately, the picture we have been using for the last 9 months or so was a copyvio, and I stupidly re-used it without checking. I am currently soliciting our editors for a free picture. I replaced the picture with the logo as an interim measure.
