Are all these templates really neccesary

There are so many templates on wikipedia nowadays. It seems so many are irrelevant, template cruft, though this has become something of a feature of wikipedia since i joined. Nobody actually wants to contribute useful information to the project, just show off their wiki-coding schools by adding useless crap, that can just about justify itself to the point of not being immediately deleted. This isnt myspace, if you want to show off coding skills go there! these templates are useless. Almost all templates found at the bottom of pages are far better off being categories, as they have no benefit as being a template, and simply clutter the articles. Thank you. For what it's worth, I tend to agree. However, given that Wikipedia is built on consensus, if consensus is that these things are necessary then it makes sense for them to be made as good as they can. DJR (T) 23:30, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't agree. The Serie A template is very useful considering it aids movement from one Serie A season to another and from one club to another. Very handy and far easier to use than categories. Niall123 00:36, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
