Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Ditto. The links to a wikio search engine are inappropriate and have been removed. --Oscarthecat 08:25, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry and thanks for your email.

Wikio.com is a search engine presenting all available news info in real time on the web. Many Wikipedia pages provide links to Yahoo, IMDB, MySpace and more. Wikio provide a service that synchronizes with the purpose of Wikipedia.

According to Wikipedia rules, it’s impossible to add links if you work for the site you are adding. But we prefer to add our own links out in the open, rather than create a false identity to do the same thing.

Please reconsider allowing links to Wikio under your External Links sections; we really think there is a logical convergence between the services offered between Wikipedia and Wikio.

Hi Patrick, thanks for the swift reply. There's clearly a conflict of interest here. Also, as wikio itself doesn't appear to host any content, being a news aggregator, it seems more appropriate that any truly relevant content pointed to by wikio ought to be linked directly from wikipedia. Keen to hear other people's views, but as such Wikio doesn't seem to be worth linking to, much as google news itself isn't usually linked to.
That said, it's quite right that Wikio has its own article on wikipedia, as it's notable site, and will probably become even more notable once it's out of beta. --Oscarthecat 10:05, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
