Location map

Hi Kalan, thanks for your work on the location map template. It seems that this isn't a quick-fix, so can I suggest you use the template sandbox or your user space for developing the 180 degree meridian fix while leaving the float functionality working on the live template. There are hundreds of articles that use the location map template and we really can't risk have their formatting disrupted for hours at a time. Cheers, Waggers 12:54, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Waggers, I see that your version doesn't seem to work (at least I can judge it according to examples given in the template page). Anyway, a bot is required to change decimal degrees to dms, it could also take quoted values of float attribute. If there are no quotes, all works OK in my version. — Kalan 13:06, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that, although none of the instances of the template that I've been using seemed to work after your edits to the template and they don't have quotes in the float attributes (see Townhill Park for example). Waggers 13:23, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've solved the problem. The solution was so stupid that I was laughing out loud for several minutes. What about signing, try writing a JavaScript that will show you a notice when no ~~~~ is found in talk page text. — Kalan 13:30, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's great news, well done! Good thinking about the javascript, I'll consider that. Waggers 13:34, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Location map

I've rolled back your changes since they have caused multiple problems, as noted on Template talk:Location map. Please fix the problems before changing the template again. (Caniago 15:42, 24 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Please don't disturb me with editing conflicts, I've found the solution. — Kalan 15:46, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The Infobox City template still has problems which you need to fix. Take a look at the label "Location of Pontianak in Indonesia" - it should be below the map, not to the left hand side in your testcase. The top and bottom options are similar to the left and right options - see below for examples:

Lua error in Module:Location_map at line 526: Unable to find the specified location map definition: "Module:Location map/data/Smile" does not exist. position=top Lua error in Module:Location_map at line 526: Unable to find the specified location map definition: "Module:Location map/data/Smile2" does not exist.
Lua error in Module:Location_map at line 526: Unable to find the specified location map definition: "Module:Location map/data/Smile" does not exist. position=bottom Lua error in Module:Location_map at line 526: Unable to find the specified location map definition: "Module:Location map/data/Smile2" does not exist.

(Caniago 18:14, 24 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]

The position of "Location of Pontianak in Indonesia" is still broken in your testcase and needs to be fixed. (Caniago 19:19, 24 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]

?
Tell me what's wrong. The example from the template only has "position" set to bottom. — Kalan 03:44, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I presume you are using Internet Explorer. It is fine in Internet Explorer, but broken in Mozilla (at least it is in Mozilla 2.0). (Caniago 07:36, 25 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]
No-no-no. I hate Internet Explorer and Mozilla too. My favorite browser is Opera. A problem seems to appear in infobox. — Kalan 07:41, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
One last problem which needs to be fixed. The map should be positioned in the center of the Infobox City, but with your version it is positioned on the right hand side in Mozilla. I can post a screenshot if you need it. (Caniago 08:40, 25 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]
The problem is that the float=none option is not working. See the last two testcases I just added to Template:Location_map/Temp (Caniago 08:51, 25 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Test it now. — Kalan 09:01, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, seems to work. I undid your changes to Infobox City, since fixing the float=none problem also fixes the map caption problem. (Caniago 09:29, 25 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]
I've rolled back your changes again. The border=none option no longer works, as seen at Template:Infobox_City/Test. (Caniago 10:21, 25 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Could you exactly tell me what's wrong and, if possible, show screenshots? The border belongs to the map image. — Kalan 10:45, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
For Infobox City no border should be drawn around the map. The was previously achieved by omitting the border parameter. Your changes have turned on a 1 pixel gray border around all location map images, even if the border=none option is set. You can see it most easily on a map image which has a white background. (Caniago 10:52, 25 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]
As you could see, my version of Infobox City contained border=none that removes that border. If you do not object, I'll revert both templates back. — Kalan 11:07, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Even border=none doesn't work, at least with Mozilla. (Caniago 11:08, 25 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]
border=#F9F9F9? — Kalan 11:10, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
See the Belin infobox at the bottom of Template:Location_map/Temp for a testcase. It should have no border around the map. (Caniago 11:28, 25 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Ok, my mistake. Setting border=none does fix this. (Caniago 11:42, 25 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Q.e.d. ;) Can I revert it back now? — Kalan 11:44, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've already reverted back. (Caniago 11:51, 25 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]

location maps

Would you consider dual licensing your edits to {{location map}} and related template under the cc-by 2.5? This way I could use them on the english wikinews. Happy editing. Bawolff 01:14, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Of course, there is no problem. I hereby release my contributions to {{location map}} into the public domain. — Kalan 08:39, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You might want to put one (or more) of these licensing boxes on your userpage, so people wouldn't have to ask for this in the future. Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 12:40, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Support

Hope i could get your support here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_talk:WW2InfoBox#The_new_image

and here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:World_War_II#The_new_image

Because i belive that you will agree with me that having the Normandi battle picture in the size of two, and not having a picture of the Stalingrad battle in a world war two image is absurd. M.V.E.i. 11:13, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
