Genres

Angel Diary is part of the shoujo or shojoanime genre aimed at girls between 13 and 18. One of the markers of this genre of anime is the cutesy style used in Angel Diary. Angel Diary also includes elements from the magical boy or Maho-shonen genre specifically the fact that the main character is an angel. The anime also features some sexually explicit content particularly relating to Chun-Yoo Nim's friend Bi-Wan.

Characters

Chun-Yoo Nim/Dong-Young The Princess of Heaven and the main character of Angel Diary she does not wish to be married to the King of Hell, to whom she is betrothed, and so runs away, taking refuge as a school boy. Her school boy alter-ego is named Dong-Young. He attends a high school where many of the other students are not normal. He is watched over by two of the guardians of heaven. She soon befirends the perverted character Bi-Wan who are often confused as boy lovers.

Bi-Wan Bi-Wan is the friend of Dong-Young and attends the same high school. They are very close and are often confused by other students to be homosexual or "boy lovers". He is the only character who suspects Dong-Young to be the princess. He sometimes gropes Dong-Young.

The Ghost The crazy ghost takes control of Dong-Young in the first volume. This did cause Dong-Young to make remarks that betrayed her true identity such as <A male ghost was inside me.> Dong-Young was saved by two of the guardians of heaven although they did not know they had saved Chun-Yoo-Nim.

The Guardians of Heaven There are four guardians of heaven, two of whom watch over Dong-Young's high school as other students. They save Dong-Young from the ghost but they do not realise that Dong-Young is in fact Chun-Yoo Nim.
