Welcome to Wikipedia!

Hello CaptainIron555! Welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. If you decide that you need help, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there. My Advice

To revert vandalism efficently, I recommend going to "Filter Recent Changes" to fight vandalism (although it is slow, it can detect many vandal edits). Also for my advice in editing, since you are a member of Wikiproject Comics, I strongly recommend you can clean up (spell check and grammar) the articles related to comics. Also, if you want to greet newcomers, go here. Please see the welcome message above for more info. One last thing, check your watchlist and find some links related to cleaning up articles. Hope this helps CaptainIron555/Christopher and happy editing!.--PrestonH 04:37, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

About vacation...

Hey CaptainIron555, I see you are improving quickly in your editing skills (especially in fixing up articles, teaching IronMan10/Chase the basics of Wikipedia and what Wikipedia is not etc.) Anyways I got a question about your vacation. How long will your vacation be?--PrestonH 02:24, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Note

CaptainIron555, I will be on vacation for quite a while, (see here). During my vacation, I am unlikely going to assist you with your problems or provide you any tips at this time. If you really need help...

  • ...go to the Wikipedia FAQs to see if your questions got answered.
  • ...go to the help contents if you can't find any answers on the Wikipedia FAQs.
  • ...go to the help desk to ask what you need help for if the other 2 methods above fail.
    • ...put the {{helpme}} on your talk page as an alternative to the help desk.

I will be editing after my vacation is over. Please don't forget to edit those aricles needing cleanup. Good luck and happy editing!--PrestonH 00:15, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Just a heads up, it is not such a good idea to ask people for autographs in their talk page (which Wikipedia calls it "spamming") because it annoys them and can result in a block in serious cases. Let people sign your autograph book when they have time and (as an unofficial tip) you can get more autographs if you establish a good reputation here (to do that, make a hundred/thousand good edits and edit as often as possible). Hope that helps!

I'm back and I have reviewed your contributions...

I'm back from vacation! Anywho, I have reviewed some of your contributions during my 3-week vacation and here is my feedback (plus mostly some helpful tips) on your contributions based on the last 3 weeks or so...

  • Are you having a hard time looking for articles needing copyediting? Go to here where you can find a list of articles needing copyediting.

Overall, your contributions for the last 3 weeks were OK, but if you follow all the tips and feedback given above, you will become a better grammar fixer.--PrestonH 05:51, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Want to know how to copyedit stuff the wiki way? Check Wikipedia:How to copy-edit.

P.S. Also, some of your edits have been reverted. If you are upset right now, don't take it too seriously! Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a place to increase your ego. If you still believe that your edit shouldn't have been reverted, take it up to the talk page.

Multiple Responses

My response...

  • (sigh) I don't think we can conclude whether IronMan10 is going to contribute or not. Just give him some time to contribute (Like starting him slow) and try to motivate him as much as possible (like being his mentor). Check his contributions daily just to be sure (Special:Contributions/IronMan10)
  • I personally think you need a little more edits before getting a fancy signature (225+ edits or so like article fixing). Also, getting a fancy sig. is not much of importance or signifigance. Call me back when you get 225+ edits. :)

Major update

I have found Wikipedia:Lists of common misspellings (please use it to find numerous spelling errors). Please put this on your watchlist and "unwatch" Wikipedia:Lists of common misspellings/For machines. Then fill in the "new" edit summary of...

Correct spelling per [[Wikipedia:Lists of common misspellings]]

(Note: The "edit summary" part is optional)

Hope that helps in anyway (If you don't know where to look, go to the "Link to the lists" section and click any link from there (i.e. "/B" means the misspelled word starts with the letter "B") ). --PrestonH 04:32, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Thanks for the update about IronMan10 (tell him about the update and stuff).--PrestonH 05:35, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.S. I have send a message to User talk:IronMan10 in case you didn't know, :).--PrestonH 05:35, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikibreak

Note: This is optional but doing all this is recommended.

If your school year has already begin, go to here where you will receive a template. Copy the template and paste it on the top of your userpage. That way you can tell me and the rest of the other editors that you are busy because of school and stuff.--PrestonH 05:35, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Please respond to my talk page if you are currently getting this message right now.--PrestonH 05:38, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Random tip (critical security tip)

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO RESPOND TO MY TALK PAGE IF YOU RECEIVE AND UNDERSTAND THIS MESSAGE.

Make sure your account is secured against users who will try to break in your account. Please read the following...

If your password isn't strong enough in your opinion or weak enough for your acount to be exploited, change it immediately. To change your password (assuming it is vulnerable), go to Special:Preferences and it should be easy from there. Hope that helps! :) PrestonH 03:29, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. BTW (By the way), please check here, please do not edit quotes (you know the ones with the "..." ones and excercise judgement when spell correcting articles.--PrestonH 02:03, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.S. I you find Wikipedia:Lists of common misspellings hard to use, you can always come back to Wikipedia:Lists of common misspellings/For machines and go from there. It depends what you choose.--PrestonH 03:02, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Important somewhat personal messages

As your "mentor" and real-life friend in Wikipedia, I have some important messages for you. I strongly urge you to edit at least once per day. Even if you are busy with real-life issues (i.e homework, school issues etc.), try to squeeze a little time to Wikipedia. If you are unable to do edit frequently, I can't help you very much because I can't tell whether your active or not. My words are not meant to be harsh in anyway, this is just a reminder that you should do this. Please do so.--PrestonH 22:40, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Correcting controversy

Please respond back at my talk page.

PLEASE do not edit in QUOTES! [3] If you see "..." (quotation marks) surrounding the misspelled word, DON'T correct it. If you see any thing like
.....
in "edit mode", DON'T correct what's inside the

text. Also if a misspelled word is before the [sic] indicator, then DON'T correct it. Final thing, If a word is in italics, (''...'') (looks like this in edit mode and NOT quotation marks) DON'T correct it. I know it may be a pain sometimes (and I know I'm a little harsh with these comments), but please THINK before you edit. OK?--PrestonH 02:21, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar

File:Resilient-silver.png The Resilient Barnstar
My dearest friend, I honorably give thia barnstar to you CaptainIron555. Despite the countless criticism (and tips you probably don't like you have recieved from me), you are never willing to back down no matter what (and I view that as a good thing). Even though this barnstar is a little (or a lot) early to give to you, the actions of being resistant and never giving up will not go unnoticed. PrestonH 02:42, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. The barnstar that User:IronMan10 gave you a few months ago is not "official" because he only makes a few edits, but it depends on your opinion.--PrestonH 02:42, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.S. If you got the "new message" bar, I was correcting my comments tiny bit. It is acceptable in most cases, but correcting other comments is bad/controversial. Just to avoid confusion.--PrestonH 22:40, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you explain why?

Dude, you have not edit in over a week. As I said before, with all the schoolwork and stuff, at least squeeze a little time to Wikipedia (an edit a day on Wikipedia or 5 edits a day on the weekends is perferable). If you have to attend something extremely important (that is without internet connection, tell me a day or two before you leave (see WP:BREAK for a list of templates). If you have been grounded, tell me why have you been grounded after that period of time has been passed (try to avoid being grounded is the best way). No offense, but if you are not motivated at this time, you could at least tell me so I know (If you want to quit Wikipedia, do so while leaving a notice on your userpage or tell me personally via phone call or talk page). Try to make an effort, please. This is an important reminder that you must take seriously. If you are reading this anonymusly (that is without an account logged in) and you forget your password, simply create a new account and tell me at least. I think there is no reason to not edit Wikipedia in over a week with out attending something important (like vacation, funerals, etc.)--PrestonH 03:00, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
