The Virginia Informer is a conservative student-run website and bi-monthly publication at The College of William and Mary with a staff of 48 students. It is the college's only major independent newspaper to not receive any funding from the College or Student Activity Fees and is known for many hard-hitting investigative articles (often challenging the school's often more liberal decisions). Since its founding, the Virginia Informer has stood as an advocate for the students of William and Mary in bringing to light many issues that other campus publications have refused to cover.

The Informer created controversy in early 2006 when it printed the name of a female student who accused a fellow student of rape at a sorority party held at the house of a member of the Board of Visitors. The Informer also called on that member, John Gerdelman, to resign[1]

In addition, the Virginia Informer has been outspoken against William and Mary President Gene Nichol's decision to remove a historic cross from the Wren Chapel.

The newspaper is officially non-partisan but known to have generally conservative editorials. The Virginia Informer is a member of the Collegiate Network and the Associated Collegiate Press.
