International Bibliography of the Social Sciences The International Bibliography of the Social Sciences (IBSS) is an online bibliography for social science and interdisciplinary research and is produced by the Library at the London School of Economics and Political Science. IBSS focuses mainly on the four core social science disciplines - anthropology, economics, politics and sociology – but it also covers a range of interdisciplinary subjects, such as development studies, human geography and environment and gender studies.

IBSS includes approximately 2.5 million references to journal articles, books, reviews and selected chapters and is growing at the rate of about 100,000 items per annum. Over 2,800 journals are regularly indexed and some 7,000 books included each year. IBSS covers international material with 25 per cent of references in languages other than English and with over 50 per cent of journals covered published outside the US or UK. IBSS records date back to 1951. Abstracts are available for over 75 per cent of current journal articles and links are available to the full text of articles in journals subscribed to by individual institutions.

Functionality Searches can be carried out by keyword, author or journal and results can be printed, emailed, saved or downloaded into a bibliographic management software package to create a bibliography. IBSS is updated weekly and users can set up email alerts or RSS feeds to keep up to date with new data added. A range of user guides and tutorials are available via the IBSS website.
