General (Ret.) Kim Jang-Soo, ROKA, is the 37th Chief of Staff of the Republic of Korea Army and current Minister of National Defense of the Republic of Korea.

General Kim graduated the Republic of Korea Military Academy in 1971. He previously served as Commanding General, 6th Infantry Division (1997-1999), Commanding General, VII Corps (2001-2003), and Director, Joint Operations Headquarters, Joint Chiefs of Staff (2003-2004).

His last assignment prior becoming Chief of Staff was Deputy Commander, ROK-US Combined Forces Command.

In April 2005 to November 2006, he served as Chief of Staff of the Republic of Korea Army.

In November 2006, he was appointed as 41st Minister of National Defense of the Republic of Korea.
