Bathylutichthys taranetzi is the only member of the fish family Bathylutichthyidae and the only species in the Bathylutichthys genus. It is a deep sea fish with a length of about 10 cm, and has been found exclusively in the vicinity of the South Georgia Island in the Southern Ocean at depths of 1650 metres.
