This is a list of all characters in the Warriors novel series by Erin Hunter. The list follows in chronological order, starting with the first series known as the First Arc, and following with The New Prophecy and Power of Three series.

First Arc Series

The First Arc series covers events in the story from Into the Wild to The Darkest Hour. Many characters mentioned here were introduced in the First Arc series, but play minor or significant roles in The New Prophecy and Power of Three series as well.

ThunderClan (First Arc)

ThunderClan is the "main clan" of the Warriors series, as all three series' protagonists are ThunderClan cats. During the First Arc series ThunderClan resides in the forest, sandwiched between RiverClan and ShadowClan on either side. They share very little territory borders with WindClan, and as such most of the trouble ThunderClan is forced to deal with originates either from RiverClan or ShadowClan. ThunderClan cats are accustomed to stalking through the thick underbrush of the forest, and are the sole users of the "hunter's crouch", a stalking technique used to hunt most forest-borne prey. Their main diet includes mice, voles, squirrels, thrushes and magpies.

Firestar

Firestar, a ginger tom with a flame-colored pelt and green eyes, is the main protagonist of the First Arc series. Initially a house cat ("kittypet") named Rusty, he often dreams of hunting for his own prey in the forest beyond his owners' house. Rusty joins ThunderClan after encountering Bluestar, ThunderClan's leader, and is initially established as an apprentice (Firepaw). Throughout the series Firepaw gains respect within the Clan and is eventually promoted to a full warrior (Fireheart), deputy and, finally, Clan leader (Firestar).

Firestar is typically known as a "perfect character" in the series. He does not possess any significant character flaws and is fully committed to the warrior code. Firestar is fiercely loyal not only to his Clan, but also to his many friends and allies that he meets along the way regardless of their affiliation. He repects the rules of his superiors, but also has the insight to look beyond them in order to properly judge a questionable situation. As a result, he often breaks the traditional rules of the clan (a trend started by his very inclusion into the Clan, being of kittypet origins) in order to help his friends or to rectify a situation he believes to be right. He protected his friend, Graystripe, from suspicion from the other cats when Graystripe snuck out at night to meet with Silverstream. When Bluestar declared war on WindClan for allegedly stealing prey, Firestar snuck out of camp and secretly negotiated a meeting of peace with WindClan's leader, Tallstar. Firestar is primarily responsible (along with his friend Graystripe) for several feats that have ensured the well-being of all the clans, such as retrieving WindClan after they were driven out of their camp, and hunting prey for RiverClan when they were trapped in a flood. He led all four clans against the ranks of BloodClan in The Darkest Hour and killed their leader, Scourge, thus effectively saving the entire forest.

Firestar maintains a minor prescence in subsequent series, The New Prophecy and Power of Three, as the ever-present leader of ThunderClan. Additionally, in between the First Arc series and The New Prophecy, he travels north with his mate, Sandstorm, in order to reunite the lost and scattered descendants of SkyClan in Firestar's Quest.

He has two daughters, Leafpool and Squirrelflight, both of whom have lead roles in The New Prophecy series. His grand-kits, Jaypaw, Hollypaw and Lionpaw, are the main characters of the Power of Three series. Firestar was originally mentored by Bluestar, and has mentored three apprentices himself: Cinderpelt, Cloudtail and Brambleclaw. Cloudtail is the son of his kittypet sister, Princess, while Brambleclaw is the father of his grand-kits.

Sandstorm

Sandstorm, a pale ginger tabby she-cat with green eyes, is one of the main characters in the First Arc series as well as Firestar's Quest. Initially Sandstorm is an apprentice (Sandpaw) when Firestar first joins the Clan, and openly mocks him for his kittypet origins. She and her fellow apprentice, Dustpaw, express their disdain for Firepaw whenever they get a chance, and as a result Sandpaw is avoided by Firepaw. When Firepaw is promoted (Fireheart), Sandpaw and Dustpaw are overlooked, causing resentment from both of them. Eventually Sandpaw warms up to Fireheart, a process initiated by Fireheart preventing her from falling over a cliff, thereby saving her life. When Fireheart is forced to take Sandpaw on a patrol mission, she is unexpectedly friendly and cheerful toward him. Over the course of the series it becomes apparent that Sandpaw (eventually Sandstorm) has fallen in love with Fireheart, and by The Darkest Hour the two have become an established pair.

Sandstorm is known for having a fierce personality and is quick to anger. She is also capable of being gentle, however, as evidenced by her interactions with Firestar and her children. She is noted as being the best hunter in ThunderClan, and is an excellent fighter as well, resulting in her being present in many major battles throughout the series. Her role is reduced in subsequent series (The New Prophecy and Power of Three), yet she is usually present in some form or another. The specifics regarding her knowledge of Firestar's ongoing relationship with Spottedleaf, his first love, are detailed in Firestar's Quest in which she once again plays a major role.

She has two daughters, Leafpool and Squirrelflight, as well as three grand-kits, Jaypaw, Hollypaw and Lionpaw. Sandstorm's father was Redtail, who was killed just prior to the First Arc series. She was mentored by Whitestorm, and has been a mentor to Sorreltail. She is currently mentoring Honeypaw.

Graystripe

Graystripe, a solid long-haired gray tom with amber eyes, is Firestar's oldest and best friend in ThunderClan. Initially he meets Firestar (Rusty at the time) in the forest close to Rusty's kittypet home and proceeds to attack him as if he were any other intruder. When Rusty joins ThunderClan as Firepaw, the two become great friends and often train, eat and sleep together. Shortly after being promoted to a full warrior, Graystripe falls in love with a RiverClan she-cat, Silverstream, and starts to sneak out of camp to meet her. His friendship with Fireheart is strained due to Fireheart's need to cover for him while he is away, and for a short time the two fight with each other. Eventually Graystripe is able to settle his issues with Fireheart, and their friendship continues.

Graystripe has lived in more locations than any other cat in the series. When Silverstream bore his kits, he went to live with them in RiverClan for a time. He returned to ThunderClan in A Dangerous Path. In Dawn of The New Prophecy series, Graystripe was captured by twolegs and lived as a kittypet for a time (The Lost Warrior). He finally returned to ThunderClan, now relocated to the lake territory, in The Sight of the Power of Three series, along with his new mate, Millie.

Graystripe is a friendly, hearty character. He often makes quips or jokes in order to provide relief to a tense situation, but is able to focus himself during battles and concentrate on the objective at hand. Graystripe often fights among the hardest of any cats during a battle, and is able to use his large weight to a great advantage. He usually returns from a battle with several wounds, having fought beyond the normal threshold of an ordinary cat and refusing to run. He does not have any qualms about killing hated enemies of the clan, and is responsible for the deaths of Clawface and Darkstripe, among others.

He had two kits with Silverstream, Feathertail and Stormfur. Both are prominent characters in The New Prophecy series, while Stormfur maintains a minor role in the Power of Three series. Feathertail was killed in Moonrise. Currently, his new mate, Millie, is about to bear three kits of her own. Graystripe's original mentor was Lionheart, who was killed in Into the Wild. Since then he has been a mentor to Brackenfur. It is rumored one of Millie's kits will be Buzzardkit.

Bluestar

Bluestar, a blue-gray she-cat with blue eyes, is the leader of ThunderClan during most of the First Arc series. She is responsible for bringing Firestar into ThunderClan, a decision prompted by the alarmingly low number of warriors in her Clan. Bluestar serves as Firestar's mentor during his apprenticeship and eventually appoints him as her deputy after Tigerclaw's exile. She is known as a strong, calm leader who rules over her Clan with a firm but fair hand (paw).

Bluestar fell in love with Oakheart, a RiverClan warrior, during her days as a warrior and bore his kits. Out of her ambition to become Clan leader, she secretly gave the kits to him to be raised in RiverClan. She is able to suppress her feelings regarding her decision until Fireheart, seeking to uncover the truth about Tigerclaw's deception, causes the issue to be reopened. Her feelings of regret, combined with the shock of discovering her trusted deputy Tigerclaw's plan to kill her, cause Bluestar to sink into a manic depression. She remains in this condition throughout the events of Rising Storm and A Dangerous Path, which worsens when the forest fire destroys the ThunderClan camp. She refuses to trust any of her warriors except Fireheart, and declares war on StarClan for dooming her Clan. Her faith is restored in the final moments of A Dangerous Path, when in a dramatic scene she jumps onto the leader of the pack of dogs, causing them to fall over the cliff and into the river. She dies shortly afterward, confiding in Fireheart that he truly was the "fire" that saved the clan.

Bluestar retains an authoritative role in StarClan during the events of The New Prophecy and Power of Three series. She chooses Brambleclaw as Thunderclan's representative to make the journey to the sun-down place in Midnight.

She has two kits, Mistyfoot and Stonefur, in RiverClan. Currently Mistyfoot is the deputy of Riverclan, while Stonefur was killed in The Darkest Hour. Bluestar was mentored by Stonepelt, who is dead by the time of the First Arc series. After Lionheart's death, she mentors Firestar. She has also mentored Runningwind and Frostfur. Her mother was known as Moonflower, and she had a sister named Snowfur as well. Whitestorm is Snowfur's son, thus making him Bluestar's nephew.

Tigerstar

Tigerstar, a dark brown tabby tom with amber eyes and unusually long claws, is the primary antagonist of the First Arc series. Initially he is Tigerclaw, a senior warrior among the ranks of ThunderClan, when Firestar is brought into the forest. The two never quite get along, and Tigerclaw's hostility towards Fireheart is heightened when Fireheart discover's Tigerclaw's plan to rule the clan. Tigerclaw is a master of deception and manipulation, and is able to orchestrate the death of Redtail (an act he himself committed) as appearing to be the work of Oakheart from RiverClan. By doing so he plans to become deputy, ensuring his eventual place as leader. When he finally becomes deputy, he secretly plots with Brokentail and his gang of rogue outlaws in order to kill Bluestar, while making the entire scene look like an attack that he was unable to defend against. Fireheart discovers his plans and as a result Tigerclaw is exiled from the clan.

Tigerclaw, now a loner, is able to manipulate ShadowClan into accepting him as their leader and becomes Tigerstar. From his new position of authority he is able to conceal his true nature from the clans, and secretly lures a pack of wild dogs into ThunderClan's territory in order to exact revenge on his former clanmates. When this plan, too, is foiled by Firestar and the others, Tigerstar hatches a plan to rule the entire forest while employing the services of the ruthless BloodClan in order to intimidate the other clans into submission. However, he underestimates the power of Scourge, the leader of BloodClan, and is killed in one blow when Scourge decides to take over the forest himself.

In The New Prophecy series, Tigerstar returns to haunt and harness his sons into furthering his dark schemes. It is revealed that he was denied access into StarClan, and was banished to a dark, shadowy forest known as the Dark Forest.[1] He visits his two sons, Brambleclaw and Hawkfrost, in their dreams and teaches them battle skills and leadership tactics. While Brambleclaw is hesitant to be influenced by his father, Hawkfrost welcomes his advice and plots to take control of the Clans much in the same way as his father did. When Hawkfrost is killed by Brambleclaw in Sunset and Brambleclaw vows to never again listen to his father's ambitions, Tigerstar's plans appear to be thwarted.

Tigerstar plays a small role in the Power of Three series as a battle mentor to his grandson, Lionpaw, along with his dead son Hawkfrost. The consequences of his actions do not appear to be causing any harm to the Clans; Lionpaw becomes a masterful fighter due to his grandfather's influence and excells in battle skills far beyond any other apprentice. Whether or not Lionpaw is part of yet another plan hatched by Tigerstar from the shadows remains to be seen.

Tigerstar was originally mentored by Thistleclaw, who is dead before the events of the First Arc series. He takes Ravenpaw as an apprentice for a short time. He has taken two mates, Goldenflower and Sasha. He has four direct kits; Tawnypelt and Brambleclaw from Goldenflower, and Mothwing and Hawkfrost from Sasha. His grand-kits include Lionpaw, Hollypaw, Jaypaw (Brambleclaw's kits), and Dawnkit, Flamekit, and Tigerkit (Tawnypelt's kits). It is revealed in Firestar's Quest that Tigerstar is a direct descendant of the kits of Birdflight, a SkyClan she-cat who sheltered in ThunderClan during SkyClan's exile. This makes him part-SkyClan, along with his cousin Spottedleaf, the original ThunderClan medicine cat.

Cinderpelt

Cinderpelt, a gray she-cat with blue eyes, is ThunderClan's medicine cat (in charge of herbs for healing injuries and ailments, as well as communing with warrior ancestors of StarClan and interpreting prophetic signs) for a large part of the First Arc and The New Prophecy series. Originally she trains to be a warrior as an apprentice under Firestar's mentoring, but she is critically injured when she stumbles into a trap laid by Tigerstar in order to lure Bluestar to her death. Soon after she begins training as a medicine cat apprentice under Yellowfang.

Cinderpelt is one of Firestar's closest friends throughout the series, and remains his trusted advisor whenever he needs spiritual guidance. Initially overexcited and bouncy, she often overwhelms Firestar as an apprentice and often dashes off on her own. After she begins training as a medicine cat, her personality greatly matures and she appears to possess the wisdom of a much older cat. She falls in love with Firestar, though Firestar himself never realizes this and Cinderpelt never tells him.[1] Though she always wanted to be a warrior, she accepts her new destiny and dedicates her life to becoming a legendary medicine cat. She is killed in Twilight of The New Prophecy series while defending the ThunderClan nursery from a group of marauding badgers.

StarClan had originally destined Cinderpelt to be a warrior, but they did not plan on her being caught in Tigerstar's trap on the Thunderpath. As a reward for her dedication to her new destiny, Cinderpelt has not passed on to Starclan after her death; she has been reincarnated into Cinderkit, later Cinderpaw, in the Power of Three series.[2] Cinderpaw herself is not aware of this consciously, however she unknowingly exhibits behaviors and insights similar to that of the old medicine cat. The implications of this "second life", as well as Cinderpelt's true destiny, have yet to be realized.

Cinderpelt was mentored by Yellowfang, and mentored Leafpool as her successor. Her mother is Frostfur, which makes Thornclaw and Brightheart her siblings, though they were from a different litter. Her brother, Brackenfur, is the father of Cinderpaw, a situation which is slightly confusing given Cinderpaw's reincarnation. This would imply, then, that Cinderpelt's brother is now her father, though the new Cinderpaw is still very much an individual cat in her own right.

Whitestorm

Whitestorm, a white tom with yellow eyes, is a senior ThunderClan warrior in the First Arc series. He is one of the few cats who always treats Firestar with respect when he is first brought into ThunderClan, and often gives him advice when he senses Firestar is troubled. Whitestorm is a gallant fighter, but is often more reserved than bloodthirsty and carries a thoughtful demeanor.

Though he is the most experienced senior warrior in the clan, Whitestorm does not harbor any ambition toward becoming clan leader and as such offers his wisdom to younger cats entirely out of good will. He assists Fireheart with the burdens of being Clan deputy during Bluestar's depression, and takes over for him occasionally when Fireheart's duties call him elsewhere. He has a close friendship with Bluestar, and often stays by her side in order to comfort her and maintain her sanity when she succumbs into paranoia through the later books. Eventually Firestar appoints Whitestorm as his deputy in appreciation for all his advice, a promotion he is unexpectedly pleased about (a trait that Firestar admires, given the ambitions of previous cats he had encountered). Whitestorm is killed by Bone during the battle with BloodClan in The Darkest Hour, his last wish being that Firestar appoint Graystripe as his new deputy.

Whitestorm has taken two mates over the course of the series: Willowpelt, and Brindleface. With Willowpelt he fathered Sorreltail, Sootfur and Rainwhisker, while with Brindleface he fathered Ashfur and Ferncloud. As such he is the grandfather of both Ferncloud and Sorreltail's kits, including Larchkit, Hollykit, Icepaw, Foxpaw, Shrewpaw, Cinderpaw, Hazelpaw, Honeypaw, Poppypaw, Birchfall, and Spiderleg. He has mentored Sandstorm and Brightheart.

Spottedleaf

Spottedleaf is a dark tortoiseshell she-cat with amber eyes, a black and brown dappled pelt, and a golden-and-black striped tail. She has played a minor role in every series to date despite her early death in Into the Wild. Originally Spottedleaf was ThunderClan's medicine cat and foretold that "Fire will save the clan", which becomes the main prophecy of the First Arc series. Firestar, when first introduced into the camp, immediately takes a liking to her and it is implied that she begins to return his feelings. Unfortunately, she is killed by Clawface during a raid by ShadowClan.

Spottedleaf is a prominent member of StarClan and often serves as a spiritual guide to the protagonists of each series, most notably Firestar, whom she falls in love with over the course of his adventures in the First Arc series. She is often seen as a source of comfort, and presents cryptic warnings and messages to cats notifying them of impending events. Being dead, she cannot serve any more prominent roles in the lives of the cats she watches over, a fact that is frequently a source of frustration to her regarding Firestar's budding relationship with Sandstorm. It is revealed that she does indeed wish things were different between them, and continues to love Firestar despite their differences of existence.[3] She accepts her position, however, and acknowledges Sandstorm in a dream of her own in order to reassure the living cat of Firestar's loyalty.

Spottedleaf's relationships are relatively unknown, given her early death. Her mother is listed as being Dappletail, her sister is Willowpelt and Tigerstar is known to be her cousin. Having not found an apprentice by the time of her death, Yellowfang succeeds her when she joins the clan. It is revealed in Firestar's Quest that Spottedleaf is a direct descendant of the kits of Birdflight, a SkyClan she-cat who stayed with ThunderClan during SkyClan's exile. Thus, she is part-SkyClan (along with her cousin Tigerstar) and permitted to walk in the skies of SkyClan's warrior ancestors as well as StarClan.

Yellowfang

Yellowfang, a dark grey she-cat with orange eyes and a flat, broad face, is ThunderClan's medicine cat for much of the duration of the First Arc series. She was originally the medicine cat of ShadowClan, and formed a forbidden relationship with ShadowClan's leader, Raggedstar, which resulted in her giving birth to three kits. Two of these kits died, and the third, Brokentail, eventually forced his way into becoming Shadowclan's leader by killing Raggedstar. Yellowfang was exiled from the camp when Brokenstar, who never knew who his true parents were, blamed her for the death of two kits he had forced into training too early. Yellowfang was found by Firepaw, who took her back to camp as a prisoner. After Spottedleaf's death, Yellowfang is asked to serve as Thunderclan's new medicine cat.

Yellowfang displays a rough and irritable personality to most cats who encounter her. She speaks the blunt truth rather often, refusing to soften her words, as she feels this would dilute the truth of the matter. Yellowfang has a close friendship with Firepaw beyond their initial meeting, during which the two attack each other. She is struck by Firepaw's potential and acts as a surrogate mother to him throughout his training. When Cinderpelt is injured and her chances of becoming a warrior forfeited, Yellowfang trains her as a medicine cat. Her personality clashes with that of Cinderpelt's, and the two often bicker back and forth; Yellowfang greatly respects Cinderpelt as a result due to her courage to fire her words right back at her.

Yellowfang is killed in the great fire that destroys much of ThunderClan's camp during the events of Rising Storm. Her last words are to Fireheart, telling him that he was the son she always wished she had. Yellowfang mentored Runningnose as a medicine cat in ShadowClan, who retained a great deal of respect for her despite her exile.

In the Power of Three series Yellowfang is one of the first Starclan cats to realize Jaypaw's ability to transcend dreams. She attempts to stop him from abusing his power, but Jaypaw stubbornly refuses.

Yellowfang mentored Runningnose while she was in ShadowClan and Cinderpaw while she was in ThunderClan. It is unknown who her mentor was. Her mate was Raggedstar. She had three kits. Two of them died shortly after birth, the other one, Brokenkit, lived to be strong and ambitious. She thought of Firestar as her son.

Lionheart

Lionheart is a senior warrior in ThunderClan during the events of Into the Wild. He is Graystripe's mentor and a close friend to Bluestar. After the death of Redtail, ThunderClan's former deputy, Lionheart is appointed the new deputy. However, ShadowClan attacks the ThunderClan camp shortly thereafter and Lionheart is killed, allowing Tigerclaw to finally succeed him.

Lionheart, despite his limited appearance in the story, is described as being a good-natured warrior with a large amount of experience and wisdom. He gives Firestar the first of his nine lives during his leader's ceremony in The Darkest Hour.

Darkstripe

Darkstripe is a warrior in ThunderClan during the entirety of the First Arc series. He is a rude, unpleasant cat who maintains a highly negative opinion of Firestar thoughout the series. He is a close friend and supporter of Tigerstar, and as such is fiercely loyal to Tigerstar's ambitions despite their implications. Darkstripe routinely voices his negative opinions at clan meetings, refusing to trust Firestar due to his kittypet origins and mocking any cat who thinks otherwise.

When Tigerstar is exiled from ThunderClan in Forest of Secrets, Darkstripe voices his disappointment that Tigerstar didn't include him in his plan to kill Bluestar. It is interesting to note that he did not appear to have a problem with Tigerstar's plan itself, but rather that he wasn't allowed to be a part of it. Darkstripe's lonely path of a devoted follower continues to reduce his popularity in the clan, and in A Dangerous Path he begins secretly plotting with Tigerstar across the border in order to bring the dogs upon the camp and save only his children, Bramblekit and Tawnykit, from the ensuing chaos. After this fails, he attempts to kill Sorrelkit when she discovers his meetings with Tigerstar, and he is exiled from the clan. Darkstripe immediately runs to Tigerstar's side, but when Tigerstar is killed by Scourge, Darkstripe is left completely alone. His resulting madness culminates in the battle with BloodClan during The Darkest Hour, when he forsakes all loyalty to any clan and desparately attempts to kill Firestar himself. He is killed, finally, by Graystripe.

Darkstripe has mentored Dustpelt and Ferncloud, although his mentorship of Ferncloud was revoked when he was exiled from the clan. His other relationships are unknown, and it can be implied from his personality that hardly any cat liked him very much. He is shown during the later half of The New Prophecy series to be walking the same dark forest as Tigerstar, known as the Place of No Stars.[1]

Longtail

Longtail is a recurring ThunderClan warrior introduced in Into the Wild. He is the first to challenge Firestar due to his kittypet origins, and fights him when he first arrives in the clan. This results in Firestar's collar being ripped off, which is then taken as a sign that he will be accepted into the clan. Longtail maintains a grudge against Firestar for much of the series, not only because Firestar defeated him, but also because he is a strong supporter of Tigerstar, Firestar's chief rival.

Longtail's attitude slowly matures over the course of the series, and he develops an eventual respect for Firestar as a result of his repeatedly demonstrated courage, something Longtail lacks. He revokes his allegiance with Tigerstar after his exile, and sets himself toward becoming a respected warrior withing the clan. While he still resents Firestar to some degree, he realizes his clan's safety is far more important and warns him of Tigerstar's dark schemes from across the border as well as Darkstripe's misplaced loyalty during Rising Storm and A Dangerous Path. Longtail eventually fights alongside Firestar against Darkstripe and BloodClan during the events of The Darkest Hour, having finally found his true place within the clan as well as Firestar's respect.

Almost ironically, Longtail is blinded shortly thereafter by a rabbit's claws. He remains in the clan as an elder throughout The New Prophecy and Power of Three series, despite being only slightly older than Firestar. He has mentored Swiftpaw, Ferncloud and Sootfur.

Dustpelt

Dustpelt, a dark brown tabby, is a ThunderClan warrior introduced in Into the Wild. He is of the same approximate age as Firestar, and had recently been made an apprentice when Firestar initially joins the clan. He and Sandstorm often bully Firestar during his apprenticeship and clearly resent his kittypet origins; however, this becomes less important as the story progresses. Dustpelt favors Sandstorm, but their relationship is strained when Sandstorm begins to fall in love with Firestar and he feels rejected. Despite this, Dustpelt possesses a high strength of character and is able to move on. Originally an ally and strong supporter of Tigerstar, Dustpelt was horrified to discover that Tigerstar killed his beloved mentor, Redtail, and publicly rejected him in front of the clan when Tigerstar was exiled.

Though usually depicted as a grudging ally of Firestar throughout all three series, Dustpelt's loyalty to his clan (and therefore, its kittypet leader) is of absolute importance to him and he is a highly valued warrior as a result. Dustpelt is a skilled fighter, and is present in most attack parties described in the series. He is also a warm and dedicated father, having experienced the deaths of three of his kits, and makes sure to maintain a strong presence in both his kit's lives and that of his mate, Ferncloud.

Dustpelt's kits, both living and dead, include Hollykit, Larchkit, Foxkit, Icekit, Shrewpaw, Birchfall, and Spiderleg. His grandkits, Toadkit and Rosekit, have been fathered by Spiderleg and his mate Daisy. Through the course of the series Dustpelt has mentored Squirrelflight and Ashfur.

Cloudtail

Cloudtail, a long-furred white tom, is a ThunderClan warrior introduced in Fire and Ice. He is the daughter of Princess, Firestar's sister, and is thus Firestar's nephew. Upon learning that her kits are to be given away by her twoleg owners, Princess gives Cloudtail to Firestar as a kit because she wants at least one of her kits to grow up freely in the forest. Initially Cloudtail is rejected by many members of ThunderClan, including Bluestar herself, because of the Clan's reluctance to admit yet another kittypet into its ranks.

Cloudtail grows up as an arrogant, loudmouthed apprentice who often refuses to listen to his mentor, Firestar. He is quite slow to understand the warrior code and often takes selfish actions that benefit himself and not the Clan. His loyalty to the Clan is finally established when, after sneaking off to solicit food from twolegs, he is captured and taken to a suburb on the other side of WindClan near Barley's farm. Firestar and Sandstorm rescue him with Barley's and Ravenpaw's help. This event serves to firmly cement Cloudtail's place in the Clan, and he behaves in a much more mature manner thereafter.

Despite becoming a loyal warrior, Cloudtail has retained much of his attitude and is one of the more aggressive cats in the Clan; he is consistently known for his sharp tongue and is often one of the first cats to jump at the prospect of a fight. Cloudtail does not believe in StarClan, making him one of two cats in the series to do so (the other being Mothwing). He does show a significantly softer side when dealing with his mate, Brightheart, however. Cloudtail is primarily responsible for training Brightheart to be able to fight effectively despite her injuries. His personality taken aside, Cloudtail is friendly to most cats (provided they are not from another Clan).

Cloudtail has one daughter, Whitewing. Being Firestar's nephew, he also shares kinship with all of Firestar's direct line, including Leafpool, Squirrelflight, Jaypaw, Hollypaw, and Lionpaw. During the second half of The New Prophecy series he shows a brief interest in Daisy, who has in fact fallen in love with him, but is unaware he is doing so. Once he realizes he is hurting Brightheart, he resolves to stop spending time with Daisy.

Brightheart

Brightheart is a warrior in Thunderclan. She was apprenticed to Whitestorm but like most of the other apprentices and some mentors, she was furious that Bluestar had refused to make them warriors. In book 5, she followed Swiftpaw to go track down whatever's prowling in the forest but Swiftpaw got killed and Brightheart was injured. Her face was completly wounded and she's not as beautiful as she once was. Bluestar then gave her a warrior name; Lostface. Everyone was horrified espicially Fireheart and Cloudtail. The ears and eyes on one side of Lostface's face are damaged and she can't hear or see on that side. Despite her state, she was still cared for by Cinderpelt and Cloudtail, who has fallen in love with her. When Firestar became leader, he changed Lostface's name to Brightheart. Brightheart has developed a new fighting technique; is not letting enemies approach her blind side, moving back and forth and when the enemy leaped, she goes under their claws and trip them. This technique impressed Firestar and she used it to fight Bloodclan, which worked really well. She became Cloudtail's mate.

Brightheart mentored Jaypaw for a short time, until Jaypaw transferred to Leafpool for medicine cat training. She has one daughter with Cloutail, Whitewing.

Swiftpaw

Swiftpaw is a apprentice in Thunderclan. He was introduced in book 2 and his mentor was Longtail. Swiftpaw was the first apprentice that Bluestar refused to make a warrior because Longtail was asked by Tigerclaw to go with him when he was exiled. Swiftpaw was furious at this and gathered the apprentices so he can track down whatever's trespassing in Thunderclan territory. He and Brightheart went but the trespassers were revealed to be furocious dogs and Swiftpaw was killed. He was deeply mourned through the clan espcially Longtail. Swiftpaw appeared in Fireheart's dream when he became leader and gave him the power of mentoring.

Ravenpaw

Ravenpaw was a apprentice along with Firepaw and Graypaw. He is a very timid cat and his mentor is Tigerclaw. He is the only one who knew about the truth about Thunderclan deputy, Redtail's death but kept it a secret because Tigerclaw may kill him. Firepaw and Graypaw helped Ravenpaw escape to go live on a farm so he would be safe from Tigerclaw. Ravenpaw and his friend Barley gave shelter to Fireheart and Graystripe when they brought Windclan home. He also helped Firestar and Graystripe retrieve Graystripe's kits and fought alongside Lionclan against Bloodclan.

Redtail

Redtail was Thunderclan's deputy when Firestar was still a kittypet (house cat). He, Tigerclaw and Ravenpaw left on the morning before Rusty came to Thunderclan to fight with Riverclan and Redtail was killed by Tigerclaw. However, Tigerclaw claims that it was Oakheart, saying that the Riverclan deputy killed Redtail, but Ravenpaw witnessed Redtail's true death. Fireheart and Graystripe continued to search for clues about Redtail until after Tigerclaw and his rogues attack, Fireheart tells everyone in Thunderclan about Redtail. Redtail appeared in Fireheart's dream as he undergoes the leader ceremony. He thanks Fireheart for revealing the truth about his death.

Runningwind

Runningwind is a warrior in Thunderclan. In book 2, when Graystripe snuck out to meet Silverstream, Runningwind helps Fireheart train Brackenpaw and Cinderpaw. In book 4, Runningwind's patrol was attacked by Tigerclaw and Runningwind was killed. Fireheart promised Runningwind that he will avenge his death. Runningwind appeared in Fireheart's dream and gave him the power of tireless energy.

His sister is Mousefur, mother is One-eye, and father is Halftail.

Mousefur

Mousefur, a small dusky brown she-cat, is a warrior in Thunderclan. She first appeared in book 1's prologue where she was attacked by a Riverclan warrior but was saved by Tigerclaw. She is respectful for Fireheart, even comforting him when Graystripe didn't appear in the Gathering after he left Thunderclan to join Riverclan. Mousefur was devestated when Tigerstar killed her brother, Runningwind. She was given the apprentice Thornpaw but was frustrated when Bluestar refused to make Thornpaw a warrior. Eventually he becomes Thornclaw. In book three of the New Prophecy, she became and elder. Her brother is Runningwind, mother is One-eye, and father is Halftail.

Willowpelt

Willowpelt is a warrior and queen of Thunderclan. She is a very pale gray she-cat with unusual blue eyes and gave birth to Whitestorm's kits, Sorreltail, Sootfur and Rainwhisker. One of her kits, Sorrelkit caught Darkstripe meeting Blackfoot, Shadowclan's deputy and was fed deathberries by Darkstripe to keep her quiet. She died saving her son Sootpaw from a badger that snapped her spine.

Willowpelt has had two mates over the course of the series: Whitestorm, and Patchpelt. She had one kit with Patchpelt, Graystripe. Her kits with Whitestorm incluce Sorreltail, Rainwhisker, and Sootfur.

Thornclaw

Thornclaw is a warrior in Thunderclan. He is a golden brown tabby tom. He was one of the apprentices that Bluestar refused to make a warrior in A Dangerous Path, but later was made Firestar's very first warrior. He also had Sootfur, Shrewpaw and now has Poppypaw as his apprentices. He has a great friendship with Whitewing, as he is often seen with her in the New Prophecy and the Power of Three. He is the brother of Brightheart, Cinderpelt, and Brackenfur. He gets along well with his fellow Clanmates and is somewhat popular in his Clan. He has mentored Sootfur, Shrewpaw, and Poppypaw.

Goldenflower

Goldenflower is a pale ginger warrior and queen in Thunderclan. She gave birth to Tigerclaw's kits Bramblekit and Tawnykit. She discussed with Fireheart on how to reveal to the two kits about their traiterous father.

Brindleface

Brindleface was a tabby warrior and queen of Thunderclan. She volunteered to nurse Cloudkit when he came into ThunderClan. In Book 5, Brindleface was killed by Tigerclaw to give the dogs a taste for cat's blood. Cloudtail is furious and is determined to avenge his foster mother. Her son Ashfur and daughter Ferncloud are still living and stay strong throughout this tragedy. She appears to Firestar as he is receiving his nine lives and gave him the power of protection. She gives him the same love for his Clan as a mother does for her kits. Her mate was Whitestorm.

Frostfur

Frostfur is a warrior and queen of ThunderClan. She has a beautiful white coat and blue eyes. In Book 1, the ShadowClan warrior Clawface came and stole her kits away but was retrieved by Firepaw and Yellowfang. When the Clans have to leave the forest, she is one of the cats who chooses to stay behind and die in her old home. She stayed to bury Mudfur medicine cat of Riverclan. Her kits include Cinderpelt, Brackenfur, Thornclaw, and Brightheart.

Speckletail

Speckletail is a tabby queen in Thunderclan and is also the oldest nursery queen. Her kit, Snowkit is deaf, a fact that she hid from her Clans until Brackenfur believed that the kit is deaf. She grows depressed when Snowkit was carried off by a hawk and she moved into the elder's den. She is one of the cats who refuses when the Clans leave their home, so she won't slow the Clans down, and dies in the forest. She had three kits with her mate, Smallear: Lionheart, Goldenflower, and Snowkit.

Halftail

Halftail is a elder in Thunderclan. He is called Halftail because parts of his tail has been bitten off by a badger. In book 4, when fire catches in the forest, Halftail died because he breathed in too much smoke. He has two kits with his mate, One-eye: Mousefur and Runningwind.

Patchpelt

Patchpelt is a elder in Thunderclan. He is a white cat with black patches. Patchpelt died in book 4 when fire catches in the forest. His mate was Willowpelt, and thus he is the father of Graystripe.

Smallear

Smallear is a elder in Thunderclan. He is the oldest tom in Thunderclan and was called Smallear because of his tiny ears. In book 4, Smallear fell into the river whilst escaping the fire but was saved by Fireheart. However, Smallear wasn't thankful and even stated that Fireheart nearly drowned him. Smallear is disliked by most cats, espcially Tawnypaw mainly because Smallear keeps reminding that she may end up like her father, Tigerstar. Smallear's mate was Speckletail, and thus is the father of Lionheart, Goldenflower, and Snowkit.

One-eye

One-eye is an elder in Thunderclan and is the oldest cat in Thunderclan. One of her eyes is blind but was revealed that she was actually renamed as One-eye and her true warrior name was unknown. One-eye doesn't really mind her name and teaches Firestar the words to rename a warrior that already has a name. She has two kits with her mate, Halftail: Mousefur and Runningwind.

Dappletail

Dappletail is a elder in Thunderclan. She has a lovely dappled coat and treats Firestar nicely, welcoming him into the elder's den despite Smallear telling him to get out. She was one of the gentlest queens, but unfortunatly dies after eating a tainted rabbit that was poisoned by Twolegs. Her kits are Spottedleaf and Willowpelt.

RiverClan (First Arc)

RiverClan is a water-native clan, known for the river that runs throughout their territory. RiverClan cats have the unique ability to swim efficiently in fast-moving water, and are generally among the only cats that possess the knowledge of fishing. Due to their main diet of fish, their pelts are typically silkier and glossier than most other clans' which grants them increased mobility in water. RiverClan often have border disputes with ThunderClan over the Sunningrocks, a section of land on their side of the river that ThunderClan took from them a long time ago. They are not openly hostile, but can be prone to ally themselves with potenially hostile clans (namely ShadowClan). The reason for this is usually based on the rationale of relative strength; RiverClan's leaders tend to think that joining a powerful adversary instead of standing against them is more beneficial for their clan in the long run.

Leopardstar

Leopardstar, and unusually spotted golden tabby she-cat, is the current leader of RiverClan. RiverClan was once led by Crookedstar. After Oakheart's death, Leopardstar was appointed deputy. She seems to show much dislike towards ThunderClan, espicially Fireheart, but follows the warrior code and helps them when a fire destroys the ThunderClan camp. After Crookedstar's death, Leopardstar became the new leader and fought with ThunderClan over a piece of land called Sunningrocks. She was fighting Fireheart until Graystripe pulled her off his friend, which leds to Graystripe's exile from RiverClan. She agreed to join Tigerstar in his Clan, TigerClan, and didn't do anything when Stonefur, her deputy, got killed. At the end, she and ShadowClan joined forces with LionClan to fight BloodClan. She has mentored Whiteclaw and Hawkfrost.

Mistyfoot

Mistyfoot is the current deputy in Riverclan. She has a blue-grey pelt and blue eyes. She and her brother Stonefur were Bluestar's kits, a fact that neither of them knew. Both of them thought that Graypool was their mother and they were born in Riverclan. When a flood destroys Riverclan camp, Mistyfoot's kits almost drowned but they were saved by Fireheart and Graystripe. In book 5, Mistyfoot and Stonefur attacked Bluestar in a battle for territory but Fireheart saved Bluestar's life by telling Mistyfoot and Stonefur that Bluestar is their mother. Both of them were furious with Bluestar and left. By the end of the book, when Bluestar is losing her last life, Mistyfoot and Stonefur found in their hearts to forgive Bluestar. Unfortunatly, this conversation was overheard by Tigerstar and when Riverclan joined Tigerclan, Mistyfoot and Stonefur were taken in prisoners. Firestar, Graystripe and Ravenpaw helped release Mistyfoot and Graystripe's kits but her brother got killed by Darkstripe and Blackfoot. After the battle with Bloodclan, Leopardstar named Mistyfoot as Riverclan's deputy. She has mentored Feathertail and Dapplenose.

Her parents are Oakheart and Bluestar. She has a brother named Stonefur. Her cousin is Whitestorm, because his mother is Bluestar's sister Snowfur. The mother of Bluestar and Snowfur is named Moonflower.

Stonefur

Stonefur is a warrior in Riverclan. He is Mistyfoot's brother and is Bluestar's kit. After Crookedstar died and Leopardstar became leader, Stonefur was named deputy. His apprentice was one of Graystripe's kits; Stormpaw. In a battle over territory, Fireheart revealed to Stonefur and Mistyfoot that Bluestar was their mother. Both refused to believe Bluestar was their mother but at the end, they found it in their hearts to forgive her. When Riverclan joined Tigerclan, Stonefur was told to kill Graystripe's kits to prove his loyalty Tigerclan. Stonefur refused and Tigerstar ordered Darkstripe to kill him. Stonefur nearly defeated Darkstripe but he was held back by Blackfoot, allowing Darkstripe to slash his throat, killing him. He has mentored Stormfur.

His parents are Oakheart and Bluestar. He has a sister named Mistyfoot. His cousin is Whitestorm, because Bluestar's sister Snowfur is his mother. The mother of Bluestar and Snowfur is named Moonflower.

Graypool

Graypool is a elder in Riverclan. She helped cared for Mistyfoot and Stonefur when Bluefur gave them up to Oakheart, Riverclan's deputy. Both Mistyfoot and Stonefur believe that Graypool is their mother. In book 3, Graypool revealed to Fireheart privately that Mistyfoot and Stonefur are Bluestar's kits. In book 4, Graypool wandered off from camp alone but was approached by Tigerstar. At first, she thought it was the dead Oakheart and accidentally revealed Bluestar's secret to Tigerstar (although she didn't say who the kits were) and when she found out it wasn't Oakheart, she backed away from him and accidentally fell into a ravine, hit her head on a rock, and dies.

Silverstream

Silverstream, a beautiful silver tabby she-cat with blue eyes, was the daughter of Crookedstar, leader of RiverClan. She was introduced in Fire and Ice when she saved Graystripe from drowning and soon fell in love with him. The two began a forbidden affair which broke the warrior code, which declared that cats from different Clans may not mate, and which was disapproved of by Graystripe's best friend, Fireheart. When RiverClan attacked ThunderClan, Silverstream and Fireheart fought briefly, but she released him upon Graystripe's plea. She appeared again in Forest of Secrets, when Graystripe and Fireheart sneaked food to RiverClan, where it was discovered that she was pregnant. She later brought Graypool over to meet Fireheart and Graystripe. At the end of the book, she dies giving birth to two kits, who are saved by Cinderpaw, and leaves Graystripe heartbroken. She appears in The Darkest Hour to give Firestar one of his nine lives, loyalty to what he believes is right. She appears again in Firestar's Quest and again in Moonrise in Stormfur's dream and then to lead Feathertail to StarClan after her death. In the manga The Lost Warrior, she comes to Graystripe in a dream to give him the strength to carry on.

Stormfur

A gray tom with amber eyes. He is one of Graystripe and Silverstream's kits. He mostly appears in the New Prophecy. He had shown a great liking to Squirrelflight, but ended up falling in love with Brook Where Small Fish Swim (From the Tribe Of Rushing Water). He was also the cat who the Tribe thought was the silver cat but the cat was actually Feathertail, his sister. Later on, he stayed in ThunderClan after being banished by Leopardstar for "attacking" Hawkfrost. He also didn't like the idea of his sister Feathertail liking Crowpaw(Crowfeather). In Outcast he rejoined the Tribe after being banished, and continued being a cave guard. His mentor was Stonefur.

WindClan (First Arc)

WindClan's territory is located on the open moors in the plains north of the forest. As such, WindClan cats are known for their speed and endurance, a skill that is imperative for hunting their main source of prey, rabbits. WindClan have been driven off their territory by ShadowClan by the time Firestar enters the forest, but are soon brought back with the aid of Firestar and Graystripe. WindClan are forced to deal with attacks from both ShadowClan and RiverClan throughout the series, as they are usually seen as being the weakest clan. As a result, WindClan often allies itself with ThunderClan, a recurring relationship that has further repurcussions in later series.

Tallstar

Tallstar was the leader of Windclan. Tallstar and his clan were chased off from their territory by Shadowclan until Fireheart and Graystripe brought them back. Although it seemed that Windclan are friends of Thunderclan, Tallstar was furious with Thunderclan for sheltering Brokentail, the cat who drove them out of their land and attacked Thunderclan camp for it along with Shadowclan. When Bluestar suspects Windclan of stealing their prey, Fireheart seeks Tallstar for him to talk to Bluestar in peace. In book 6, when Tigerstar announced joining all four clans, Tallstar and Firestar both rejected his offer and after Tigerclan attacked Windclan, Tallstar and Firestar agreed to fight Tigerclan as Lionclan. Tallstar loses his last life in The New Prophecy with Onewhisker at his side. He decided that instead of having Mudclaw as leader, he believed that Onewhisker should be leader. He has mentored Morningflower.

Deadfoot

Deadfoot was the former deputy of Windclan. He has a crooked paw in his front leg. After Fireheart and Graystripe had successfully brought them back, he and Onewhisker decided to escort them back to Fourtrees. Like Onewhisker, Deadfoot became friends with Fireheart. In book 6, when Tigerclan attacked Windclan, Deadfoot appeared to have died as in the book, it described as Deadfoot lying motionless and he wasn't mentioned in the battle.

Onewhisker

Onestar is a warrior in Windclan. During their return trip back to their land, he and Fireheart became close friends and were still friends even when Windclan were angry with Thunderclan for sheltering Brokentail. In book 6, in the battle with Bloodclan, Onewhisker was nearly killed by Bloodclan leader, Scourge but Firestar managed to push Scourge off him. Later, in Starlight, with Tallstar's dying breath Tallstar appoints Onewhisker deputy, which meant that Onewhisker was now the leader of WindClan. At first Onewhisker is very shy and timid about his new position, but after he receives his nine lives and name from StarClan, Onestar is more regal and more of a leader. He has mentored Whitetail and Gorsepaw.

ShadowClan (First Arc)

ShadowClan's territory resides mainly in a giant collection of swamps and bogs covered in thick pine trees, giving the area a dark and gloomy feel. Shadowclan cats are skilled at hunting and navigating in near-complete darkness, because the night is when their main sources of prey are active. Along with lizards, frogs, and small forest animals such as voles, Shadowclan also occasionally catch rats who reside in a nearby carrionplace (garbage dump); however, they must be careful when eating these rats as they occasionally carry harmful diseases. Shadowclan are often depicted as the primary antagonists of the series, and as such many of their individual members are rude and hostile. However, many ShadowClan cats are completely and blindly devoted to their leader; since a number of ShadowClan's leaders have been truly villainous, the actions of their followers have expectedly followed suit.

Brokentail

Brokenstar was the former leader of ShadowClan. He is a cruel cat who turns kits into apprentices too soon which leads to the deaths of many Shadowclan cats. He was Yellowfang's kit but didn't know it, but he knew that Raggedstar was his father. He killed Raggedstar so he could become leader and blames Yellowfang for the kit's death. This leads to Yellowfang's banishment from Shadowclan and she lived in Thunderclan. In book 1, Yellowfang and Firepaw drove Brokenstar and some of his comrades out of their territory. Brokenstar now lived as a rogue and in book 2, Brokenstar attacked Thunderclan camp, in a attempt to kill Fireheart but he was blinded by Yellowfang. He was then taken in prisoner and was stripped off his leadership status and was renamed Brokentail. When Tigerclaw attacked Thunderclan camp with rogues, Brokentail attacked his guard and Fireheart realized that Tigerclaw and Brokentail were planning this all along. When the rogues were chased out and Tigerclaw was exiled, Yellowfang decided to end Brokentail's life by feeding him deathberries but not before revealing that she is his mother. He has mentored Mosspaw and Volepaw, despite their only being 3 moons old at the time.

Blackfoot

Blackfoot was once Shadowclan's deputy when Brokenstar was leader. He was a big white cat with black paws. He was one of Brokenstar's followers and killed one of Thunderclan's elders, Rosetail in an attempt to steal their kits but was fought off by Yellowfang. Blackfoot, along with some other Shadowclan warriors were chased out of their territory. Blackfoot lived as a rogue with Brokenstar and attacked Thunderclan camp once. When Tigerstar became leader of Shadowclan, Blackfoot was appointed deputy again. In Tigerclan, Blackfoot helped Darkstripe kill Stonefur which leads him very untrustworthy towards Firestar, even when he agreed to fight with Lionclan. After the battle, he says he'll take his clan home and prepare for his journey to Highstones, where he'll become leader. He has mentored Tallpoppy.

Boulder

Boulder is a former warrior in Bloodclan and is currently a member of Shadowclan. He was one of the few cats who got chased out of Shadowclan territory by Firepaw and Yellowfang. When Tigerclaw became leader, Boulder and Blackfoot came back to Shadowclan. In book 6, Boulder brought Tigerstar to Bloodclan to meet its leader Scourge. Boulder revealed to Firestar that after Tigerstar was killed, Bloodclan attacked their clan and some Shadowclan warriors has joined them. In the end, Boulder fought alongside Lionclan to defeat Bloodclan. Scourge led bloodclan when tigerstar let them into the forest, but then scourge kills tigerstar and trys to force out the other clans, but they fight back as firestar as there leader firestar kills scourge with the help of lionclan fighting by his side.

Clawface

Clawface is one a warrior in Shadowclan. He is one of Brokenstar's followers and he was responsible for killing Firepaw's first love, Spottedleaf. He was one of the few Shadowclan warriors that were chased out of their territory. When Brokenstar attacked Thunderclan camp, Fireheart released all his anger and fought Clawface. Firheart was nearly killed by Clawface but in the end, Clawface was killed by Graystripe. He was the mentor of littlecloud before he became a medicine cat.

BloodClan

BloodClan is a group of ex-kittypets, rogues and loners (cats who are not kittypets or part of a clan) living in the large section of human suburbs (Twolegplace) located outside the forest. BloodClan do not follow the Warrior Code, do not believe in StarClan, and do not have the organization structure found in the other clans. As a result, BloodClan is run in the style of a dictatorship, and cats who either break the rules or desire to leave are punished or killed.

Scourge

A small, black cat with an icy, high-pitched voice, Scourge is the leader of BloodClan. Like many BloodClan cats, Scourge wears a collar studded with teeth taken from the bodies of enemies he has killed, which include both cats and dogs. His claws are reinforced with dogs' teeth as well, enabling him to kill any cat with relative ease in just one swipe. Scourge is a cold, violent cat who rules his clan through fear; any cats who reject his ideals are killed either by him or his minions. Scourge operates BloodClan under a survival-of-the-fittest mentality, and refuses to provide care for any cat that cannot support itself (i.e. elders and sick cats).

Scourge is solicited by Tigerstar to appear in the forest in order to convince the other clans to join under Tigerstar's rule. When Scourge develops his own plans for the forest, he kills Tigerstar and declares war on the remaining clans. Due to his lack of belief in StarClan, however, he has only one life at his disposal. While he manages to take one of Firestar's lives during the final battle in The Darkest Hour, Firestar is able to recover and strikes him down in return. BloodClan scatter upon Scourge's death.

Originally Scourge's mother, Quince, named him Tiny. He had a brother, Socks, and a sister, Ruby. Scourge's backstory is further explained the Warriors manga The Rise of Scourge.

Bone

Bone is a huge black and white tom with green eyes. He serves as the unofficial "deputy" of BloodClan, and is Scourge's main enforcer, performing his dirty work. He kills Whitestorm during the final battle in The Darkest Hour, before being swarmed and killed by a group of apprentices.

Cats outside clans

Barley

A black and white tom that lives in a barn beyond WindClan territory. He was born a member of Bloodclan. While in Bloodclan he broke one of Scourge's rules, which stated that all cats must fend for themselves, by living with his sister Violet. When this was discovered Scourge ordered Ice and Snake, who happened to be Barley's other littermates, to kill Violet as punishment to Barley. They complied and left Violet bleeding heavily from a wound in her underbelly. Barley took her to a veterinarian's house, knowing she would be cared for, and fled Bloodclan territory. Believing that the Clan cats would be similar, he avoided them and carried on until he found the barn. He later learned that the cats in the forest were not like Bloodclan, and offered them assistance and shelter when they came his way. He never expressed any desire to join a Clan, and is skittish when around many cats. He lived alone in the barn until Ravenpaw came to join him. When Bloodclan threatened the forest Barley offered Firestar insight into Bloodclan's greatest weakness, though Firestar did not understand at first. Barley and Ravenpaw fought beside the Clans to drive off Bloodclan.

Princess

Princess, a light brown tabby with a distinctive white chest and paws, is Firestar's kittypet sister. He initially discovers her garden in Fire and Ice, and returns regularly to talk with her throughout the series. Princess is enthralled by Firestar's stories of living in the forest, but also worries about him due to his oftentimes ragged appearance. Upon learning that her kits are to be given away, she gives one of them to Firestar to take back to ThunderClan. This kit eventually becomes Cloudtail, a well-known ThunderClan warrior.

Smudge

Smudge is a plump black-and-white kittypet who was Firestar's best friend during his kittenhood. Smudge was upset when Firestar decided to leave Twolegplace and live in the forest, but he accepted his friend's decision. Smudge is very comfortable with his life, and cannot imagine why Firestar wants to live in the forest with a bunch of "violent ruffians". Though he misses his friend, he manages to get on well with his replacement, a she-cat named Hattie.

Smudge's garden sits on the exact location of the ancient camp of SkyClan, and as a result he is fraught with dreams involving the lost clan's exodus in Firestar's Quest. He mistakenly interprets these dreams as a sign that he must live in the forest, as Firestar had done, and goes into the forest to find his friend. He is attacked by a border patrol, but Firestar arrives in time and calls the patrol off. Firestar then spends the night in Smudge's garden to better ascertain the will of SkyClan's elusive leader. Smudge is greatly relieved to learn that he doesn't have to live in the forest after all, and wishes his friend luck on his journey.

The New Prophecy Series

The New Prophecy series covers events in the story from Midnight to Sunset. Many characters here were first mentioned in the First Arc series, but had minor or unsignificant roles. In addition, as with the First Arc series, most characters listed here play minor or significant roles in the following series, Power of Three, as well.

ThunderClan (The New Prophecy)

Brambleclaw

Brambleclaw is a dark brown tabby tom with shiny amber eyes. He is Firestar's former apprentice. He receives a message from the dead Bluestar. She tells him that he must travel with four other cats to find the clans a new home. That leads him to be traveling with Squirrelpaw, Crowpaw, Stormfur, Feathertail and Tawnypelt his sister from Shadowclan. After they return from the long journey from the sundrown place, he had to help they rest of the cats find their new home by the lake. So after they find their new home he starts to walk in dreams with his father Tigerstar and his half brother Hawkfrost. After they had been meeting for a while Tigerstars comes up with an evil plan and Brambleclaw ends up killing Hawkfrost with a foxtrap, saving Firestar and revealing a cat from Thunderclan possibly helped his brother with his evil plot. He tells Squirrelflight his real feelings for her and she feels the same way. In Power of Three #1 They have three kits together, Jaypaw, Lionpaw and Hollypaw. In Power of Three #1, even though Graystripe returns to the forest, Brambleclaw retains his place as deputy. He has a rather tense relationship with Ashfur, whom was his rival for Squirrelflight's affections in New Prophecy #4 and #5. Coincidentally, Ashfur is the mentor for his son Lionpaw.[4][5][6][7][8][9]

Squirrelflight

A dark ginger colored she-cat, previously named Squirrelpaw. She is big-mouthed but lovable, but arguably one of the least liked of characters. She goes on the quest in the second series along with Crowpaw, Feathertail, Stormfur, Tawnypelt, and Brambleclaw. At first she taunted and resented Brambleclaw but the feelings receded and she admitted to loving him. But she began to distrust him in the last three books of the second series because of his lineage with the murderous Tigerstar. But Brambleclaw regains her trust when his half-brother, Hawkfrost, dies. In the third series they have Jaypaw, Hollypaw, and Lionpaw which are correlated with the new prophecy. She also has a short relationship with Ashfur, whom she turned down eventually when she realized she and Brambleclaw were meant to be together. She is now the proud mentor of her apprentice, Foxpaw. She is not the most motherly figure, but occasionally shows maternal affection for her three children. She was horrified when her sister ran off with Crowfeather in New Prophecy #5, and was extremely relieved when she returned. She and her sister have a special connection through which they can see what the other is thinking or perceive what the other feels. This keeps them close even though they have different paths. Squirrelflight extends this type of closeness towards Brambleclaw, whom she often fought with. It was a rather affectionate sort of arguing, though. Currently she is mentoring Foxpaw.[4][5][6][7][8][9]

Leafpool

A pretty tabby she-cat with white chest and paws. She is the medicine cat of ThunderClan. She knows that her sister and Brambleclaw have something special together. When they go to their home by the lake she starts to have feelings for Crowfeather, and they run away to be able to be together. They soon realize that they must be with their clans and they go back. She is unable to save her wonderful mentor Cinderpelt when badgers break in to the Thunderclan camp. She soon knows that her heart was always with Thunderclan being their medicine cat. Still, she still feels the pain of a broken heart, but ignores her own feelings to help her Clan, especially when her father's life is threatened by Hawkfrost. Later, in the first book of the third series, she takes Hollypaw as her apprentice. Hollypaw soon decides to give up training as a medicine cat and confesses that she only wanted to be important. Then, Jaypaw, Hollypaw's brother, receives a message from StarClan saying that he must become a medicine cat apprentice. He listens to Spottedleaf and becomes Leafpool's new apprentice. He doesn't seem to understand why he feels nothing when he tries to percept her feelings. He has no knowledge of the pain she feels from leaving Crowfeather. She shows special affection for Sorreltail's kit Cinderkit, named after her brave mentor.

Ashfur

Ashfur is a Thunderclan warrior who was introduced in the First Arc series as Ashkit and later Ashpaw along with his sister, Ferncloud. He is a capable warrior and is loyal to his clan. During the First Arc, he and Ferncloud willingly served as bait for the pack of dogs threatening ThunderClan's camp and ran ahead of them in order to lead them off course. Ashfur is deeply committed to the warrior code, and like other warriors such as Dustpelt and Thornclaw has concerns about the increasing amount of half-clan cats that have been allowed to join ThunderClan. He is also in love with Squirrelflight, and attempts to get closer to her while she struggles with Brambleclaw during the events of Twilight. He is dismayed when Squirrelflight eventually chooses Brambleclaw over him, and as a result he resents Brambleclaw thereafter.

It is strongly suggested that Ashfur is the traitor who helped Hawkfrost lay a trap for Firestar and lead Brambleclaw into ambush at the end of Sunset. His motive for such an act is quite clear - Brambleclaw took his potential mate - but why he would take their quarrel to such a level is unknown. Brambleclaw remains suspicious of Ashfur throughout the Power of Three series, and Ashfur exhibits questionable behavior when a sparring match between him and his apprentice, Lionpaw (who is Brambleclaw's son), turns ferociously hostile. However, he recovers quickly and praises Lionpaw for fighting so well. Ashfur's true feelings, and his involvement in the events of Sunset, have yet to be revealed.

Ashfur's mentor was Dustpelt. He has mentored his nephew Birchfall, and is currently mentoring Lionpaw. His parents were Whitestorm and Brindleface. Whitestorm was killed during the battle with BloodClan in The Darkest Hour, while Brindleface was killed by Tigerstar in A Dangerous Path. He has one sister, Ferncloud, and as such is the uncle of Ferncloud's kits including Larchkit, Hollykit, Icepaw, Foxpaw, Shrewpaw, Spiderleg, and Birchfall.

Daisy

Daisy is a cream she cat who lived at horseplace. She comes to Thunder clan when her kits (Berrykit, Mousekit and Hazelkit.) are nearly taken away by the twolegs. She decides to go back to the horseplace but is persuaded to go back to Thunderclan by her kits. Berrynose, Mousewhisker, and Hazeltail are from her mate in the horseplace, Smoky. Her current litter, which includes Rosekit and Toadkit, are from her new mate, Spiderleg.

RiverClan (The New Prophecy)

Feathertail

This beautiful young she-cat has a silvery-gray coat and bright blue eyes. Her father is Graystripe, Thunderclan's Deputy. She has a brother named Stormfur. Her mentor was Mistyfoot, whose brother Stonefur mentored Feathertail's brother. They both go on the great journey. She was the one who got the message from Starclan but her brother decided to go with her. While she was on the trip, she started to have feelings for Crowpaw. They soon fell deeply in love and wondered what they would do when they get home. But they never got to find out. She died to protect him and the Tribe of Rushing Water from the dreadful Sharptooth. He was a mountain lion that lived near the Tribe of Rushing Water. She died a noble and sad death. The Tribe and the Clans will never forget the beautiful hero. She now walks with her mother and has a paw in both StarClan and the Tribe of Endless Hunting. When Crowpaw was given his warrior name Silverstream, Feathertail joined him on his vigil. It is obvious that Crowfeather still feels very strongly for her, even after his heart was broken once more by Leafpool. Feathertail appears to Leafpool in her dreams to help her teach Willowpaw about Starclan and once to send a message to Crowfeather 'not to be blinded to the living.' This seemed to be Feathertail's way of accepting his relationship with Leafpool.[4][5][6][7][8][9]

Stormfur

A dark gray tom with amber eyes, formerly a RiverClan cat. He and his mate met in her tribe home, and fell in love. He and she returned to the forest and helped ThunderClan rebuild from the badger attack and head on to Riverclan. Then, he stayed in ThunderClan when he was banished from the Tribe of Rushing Water. His mate was Brook Where Small Fish Swim, who is the sister of Crag Where Eagles Nest and Talon of Swooping Eagle. He is Graystripe and Silverstream's kit, Feathertail's sister. As protective as he was of his sister, he wasn't very happy with her relationship with Crowpaw and openly rejected the tom. The cats will miss him greatly since he has decided to return to the Tribe with Brook. Stormfur is a great warrior, and cares a lot about Brook. He forged his strongest relationships from the journey with Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight. In New Prophecy #2, he felt a brief attraction to Squirrelflight, but flung his affections aside for the good of their Clans. (She never actually knew.) He was unable to ignore his love for Brook so easily, showing just how perfect they are for each other. He gets over his mild crush on Squirrleflight and proves it by teasing the two along with Tawnypelt about their care for each other. In Power of Three #3, he shows a close relationship with Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight's son Lionpaw. He confides in Lionpaw his past feelings for Lionpaw's mother, making Lionpaw wonder what it would have been like to have Stormfur as a father instead.

Hawkfrost

His father is Tigerstar and his mother is Sasha and he has one sibling called Mothwing and two half siblings, Brambleclaw and Tawnypelt`. His mentor was Leopardstar. In Starlight Hawkfrost sided with Mudclaw of WindClan and led a rebellion against Onestar (then Onewhisker) when he still had only one life. When he saw Mudclaw being killed by a falling tree he apologized to StarClan for his actions. In 'Twilight' his relationship with Brambleclaw becomes closer and Squirrelfight doesn't like this because she doesn't trust Hawkfrost. When Mistyfoot came back to RiverClan Hawkfrost was forced to let Mistyfoot become deputy again (he was deputy while she was gone) and once Mistyfoot took her place again he stared to insult her saying that she's a traitor and that shes not fit to be a deputy. He ordered Brambleclaw to kill Firestar when he trapped him, but BrambleClaw kills him instead.[4][5][6][7][8][9]

Mothwing

Her father is Tigerstar and her mother is Sasha and she has one sibling called Hawkfrost and two half siblings, Brambleclaw and Tawnypelt. Her mentor was Mudfur. She had trouble being accepted into her clan because her mother is a rogue. Eventually others accepted her because Mudfur found a moth's wing. This was interpreted as a sign from Starclan for Mothwing to be accepted as the Riverclan medicine cat. It was later found out that Hawkfrost had actually put it there. Also, Leafpool and Jaypaw are the only cats to know that Mothwing doesn't believe in Starclan. But Starclan did say she was fit to be medicine cat; they thought she would have changed her mind by the time, but she didn't. She's still be a good medicine cat. Her apprentice is Willowpaw.

WindClan (The New Prophecy)

Crowfeather

A smoky gray, almost black tom with blue eyes. He is fiercely loyal to his clan, WindClan (his mother is the deputy), and found it hard to make friends with the other cats on the journey. Amazingly, he got along best with Feathertail, and they both shared a deep love for each other. It was not to be, however, since she died to save his life. This only increased his hostility toward the other cats and made him feel utterly alone. He chose his name based on her to honor her memory. Not long after they reached their new home, his bad luck continued and he took another hard fall for Leafpool, a ThunderClan medicine cat. He revealed his affections in New Prophecy #4, when he saved Leafpool from falling to her death. She returned his feelings and the two decided to meet on the border between their Clans, where a stream runs through. Eventually Leafpool's mentor, Cinderpelt, found out, and so the two ran away. But they weren't away for long before they returned and broke off their connections. Midnight(New Prophecy) had told them about a plot her kin had made to destroy the clans. Crowfeather moved on to mate with a she-cat named Nightcloud and had a son, Breezepaw. Crowfeather shows little affection to his mate and even less paternal love for his son. There was one incident in Power of Three #1 where a den collapses on Breezepaw and Lionpaw, and then Crowfeather seems very worried for his son's life. Breezepaw was saved by Leafpool and Jaypaw. Crowfeather is currently mentoring Heatherpaw.

ShadowClan (The New Prophecy)

Tawnypelt

A tortoiseshell she-cat with green eyes. She was the cat chosen by StarClan from ShadowClan. Because her father was Tigerstar, her clanmates didn't trust her, so she left ThunderClan to join ShadowClan with her father when she was an apprentice. Since then she has been a loyal cat of ShadowClan, but some cats still don't trust her. In "The New Prophecy" she went with her brother, Brambleclaw, and the rest of the cats that were chosen on the quest to the sun-drown place. On the way she got injured by a rat-bite. She is fierce, strong, and independent. She was offered by her father the same plan of power he offered to Hawkfrost and Brambleclaw, but turned him down. In "Power of Three" her mate is Rowanclaw and she has three kits, Tigerkit, Flamekit, and Dawnkit. In Power of Three #3, she goes with her brother, Squirrelflight, Stormfur, Brook, the other Tribe cats, Crowfeather, Crowfeather's son Breezepaw, and Brambleclaw's children to help the Tribe deal with a group of rouges that have taken their territory. She is tough and stands for nothing from no one, but has an affectionate side that comes through when her friends need her.[4][5][6][7][8][9]

The Tribe of Rushing Water

Teller of the Pointed Stones

Stoneteller, as he is more commonly known, serves as the Healer of the Tribe. The Healer performs the duties of both a leader and medicine cat, essentially granting him both traditional and spiritual authority over his tribemates. The name given to the Tribe's healer is always the same, and as such there have been several Stonetellers over the course of the Tribe's history. This particular Stoneteller is well-suited to leading his Tribe, but is forced to deal with a number of crises (Sharptooth, the unnamed group of trespassing cats, etc.) that threaten their survival and unnerve his faith in the Tribe of Endless Hunting, the Tribe's spiritual equivalent of StarClan. As there are no other cats in a position of power to advise him, Stoneteller often feels overwhelmed by his responsibilities and can be prone to making rash decisions.

Brook Where Small Fish Swim

Brook is a prey-hunter within the Tribe. Unlike clan traditions, she and her fellow prey-hunters were selected for their duties at birth based on their body type. She is fast and agile, and is able to catch large birds out of the air with a well-timed leap. She instantly takes a liking to Stormfur when he and his companions happen upon the Tribe during their journey home, and teaches him how to hunt in the mountains.

Stormfur decides to stay with Brook in the mountains when the exodus of the four clans passes through. They are exiled from the Tribe following a disastrous attempt by Stormfur to rally the Tribe cats in order to force a group of intruding cats out, after which they travel to the new lake territory of ThunderClan. Brook is sorrowful for Stoneteller's decision to banish Stormfur, but remains by his side. She eventually learns to hunt and live in the forest and is accepted as a full ThunderClan cat, often providing advice to the younger cats based on her experiences in the mountains. During the events of Outcast she and Stormfur return to the Tribe along with a collection of Clan warriors in order to deal with the intruders threatening the mountains.

Brook has two brothers, Talon and Crag. She does not have any kits.

Talon of Swooping Eagle

Brook and Crag's brother, and part of Stoneteller's tribe. He is a dark brown tabby tom. He is a cave-guard. He comes with Night of no Stars(Night) to Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight for help when the tribe is having problems with trespassing cats stealing prey.

Crag Where Eagles Nest

Brook and Talon's brother. Dark gray cave-guard, part of Stoneteller's tribe, and a friend of the six clan travelers.

Power of Three Series

The Power of Three series covers events in the story from The Sight to present.

ThunderClan (Power of Three)

Lionpaw

A golden tom with amber eyes, this cat is secretly taught by the spirits of Tigerstar and Hawkfrost about different battle moves in book two of the third series, Dark River. A pretty young Windclan apprentice named Heatherpaw convinces him to make a new clan called Darkclan inside the underground tunnels, with the leader being Heatherpaw and the deputy being Lionpaw, under the assumed names Heatherstar and Lionclaw, respectively. Lionpaw unknowingly falls in love with her, and she falls in love with him. Hollypaw and Cinderpaw find out about the meetings, and Hollypaw threatens to tell. Lionpaw hates her nosiness. He enjoys the secret night meetings immensely, but falls behind in his training. One night, Lionpaw teaches Heatherpaw some of Tigerstar's moves and Hawkfrost gets angry and later rebukes him for teaching battle techniques to the enemy. He tells Lionpaw that Heatherpaw will probably use them against him in battle. Lionpaw is devastated, and tells Heatherpaw that he won't see her anymore. She is deeply hurt, but Lionpaw stays true to his word. Soon his battle and hunting skills improve again and his mentor, Ashfur, is pleased. No one is aware of his haunted visits with his grandfather and uncle, and Hollypaw notices that his fighting skills exceed the level for normal apprentices. She and the other apprentices are horrified as Ashfur and Lionpaw begin a dangerous sort of play-fight, where they act as if the other is an enemy. Hollypaw notes that Ashfur looked during the fight as if he hated Lionpaw with all his heart, but afterword praised him and acted proud.[10][11][12]

Hollypaw

A black she-cat with green eyes, she at first thought she wanted to be a medicine cat to be the most important to her clan. It turned out that she wasn't very good at it, as she couldn't remember the herbs and hated applying them. When she tried some battle moves, because even medicine cats need to know how to defend themselves, she was a natural and found that her heart lay with being warrior. Later, she and Cinderpaw found out that Lionpaw was visiting Heatherpaw. She threatened to tell if Lionpaw didn't stop seeing her. Hollypaw also noticed that Cinderpaw remembered things that happened long before she was born. Leafpool had known for a while that Cinderpaw was actually Cinderpelt, a cat crippled by Tigerstar, reincarnated. Jaypaw found out through a dream that Cinderpaw was Cinderpelt reincarnated. Hollypaw is very observant and notices things before others. She exhibited interest to be a mother but, instead seemed rather keen to become a Clan leader. This hints toward the future of her part of the prophecy. [10][11][12]

Jaypaw

A gray tabby tom with blue eyes, he is blind and very grumpy and sensitive about it. He originally wanted to be a warrior, but Leafpool urged him to become a medicine cat. With his uncanny ability to read minds and go into the dreams of other cats, he soon finds out about the prophecy "There will be three, kin of your kin, who hold the power of the stars in their paws." This prophecy was given to Firestar by a member of Skyclan, the clan long ago driven away from the forest by Twolegs, which Firestar re-esembles in Firestar's Quest. It features Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw's kits: Jaypaw, Lionpaw, and Hollypaw. He didn't let his siblings onto the prophecy until #3, though he found out at the end of #1. The warriors of StarClan get cross with him often for spying on other cats' dreams. He actually snapped at a StarClan cat, Yellowfang. He discovered during a trip to the Moonpool, by going into her dream, that Mothwing doesn't have a connection to StarClan. [10][11][12]

Cinderpaw

She is the reincarnation of Cinderpelt. Her current parents are Sorreltail and Brackenfur (who was her brother in her past life). Her siblings are now Poppypaw and Honeypaw. Leafpool and Jaypaw are the only ones that know of her true identity. Hollypaw is one of her best friends.

WindClan (Power of Three)

Breezepaw

Breezepaw is a headstrong Windclan apprentice. He often makes tactless remarks and is not afraid to voice his negative opinions. He has been shown to panic during times of crisis. Breezepaw often argues with Lionpaw and Hollypaw when with them on missions, although this is likely partly due to the fact that they are from rival clans. Despite his grumpy demeanor, Breezepaw has been known to cooperate with them on a few occasions, losing his hostile attitude almost completely in favor of the task at hand. It has been revealed in Outcast that much of Breezepaw's errant behavior stems from a lack of support from his father, Crowfeather, who shows little regard for his well-being. Crowfeather's reasons for rejecting his son are most likely due to his past (and still ongoing) love interest, Leafpool.

Heatherpaw

A pretty, well-mannered she-cat Windclan apprentice, Heatherpaw develops a close relationship with Lionpaw during The Sight and Dark River, and it is implied that the two would eventually fall in love as they get older. Heatherpaw discovers a series of secret underground tunnels connecting Windclan and Thunderclan's territories, and eventually finds Lionpaw, having made the same discovery, on the other side. The two then begin to meet each other during the night in the tunnels, pretending to be members of the fictional clan Darkclan, of which Heatherpaw is the leader. These meetings eventually take a toll on both cats' daily lives, and Heatherpaw is hurt when Lionpaw decides that they must put their repective clans first and that their relationship can no longer continue. Currently Heatherpaw's relationship with Lionpaw is assumed to be estranged, though the two still consider each other friends. She is absent from Outcast.

Nightcloud

Nightcloud is introduced in The Sight as the mate of Crowfeather and the mother of their son, Breezepaw. Her relationship with Crowfeather is depicted as somewhat distant, as the two do not seem to have a genuine affection for each other. Nightcloud is clearly aware of Crowfeather's past relationship with Leafpool and is jealous of his ongoing affection for her, implying that Crowfeather took Nightcloud as a mate only out of necessity in an attempt to "move on". Nightcloud is fiercely protective of her son, Breezepaw, and is shown to be angered by Crowfeather's lack of affection for him.
