Maplewood Parent Cooperative is a public school in the Edmonds School District in Edmonds, Washington, serving grades Kindergarten through 8th grade. It currently serves the entire school district, with students being picked in a lottery system. The current principal is Michelle Mathis. The school mascot is the Orca.

Parent volunteering

Maplewood differs from other K-8 schools in the Edmonds School District in that it requires parents to volunteer a portion of their time every week for classroom work. The annual volunteerism at the school exceeds 35,000 hours.[2]

Test Scores

Maplewood is currently in the top 1% of Washington state schools for the WASL test in all grades. The seventh grade class of 2000-2001 set the school's personal record with the highest average score. [3]

Demographics

In the 2005-2006 school year, Maplewood had a student enrollment of 445. Of these students, 93.9% are White, 2.7% are Asian, 1.6% are Black, 1.3% are Hispanic, and 0.2% are American Indian. The school employs 27 classroom teachers, with an average teacher-student ratio of 1:16.5.[4]
