Possible citation "cleanup" suggestion.

I know that RB and GH have been sharing some aspects when it comes to the presentation of certain materials, and one thing I was noticing that differentiates is that GH keeps citations for content once it's been released, whereas RB only keeps it until the content is available for purchase. My question is, is either "right" or "wrong"? I see a few "citation needed" tags for PSN dates that have been around a while, and I'm wondering if that can be removed at this time. I can understand keeping references for the Companion pack and the Dream On download since neither appears to be available anymore. As far as the other references, we have the footnotes regarding "limited availability" "XBox exclusive" and "free"...which could be where the references are moved to. It's just a suggestion, I can live with it as is, just thinking it may be possible to clean things up a bit. TRTX (talk) 13:46, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Remove Major Nelson references

Could we switch out Major Nelson references for more reliable references? According to List of songs in Guitar Hero and List of songs in Guitar Hero II, Major Nelson is not considered a reliable source. Gary King (talk) 06:12, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

The only time I've seen Major Nelson used as a source is when there's a 360 DLC announcement. In that regards he'd be reliable. Comparring the GH list to the RB list though, does the DLC that's readily available need any references at all? "Lead" more appropriate for Guitar Hero article?

The new lead is is well written and very informative, but would it more appropriate for the general Guitar Hero (series) article? This is simply a list of songs in the game, while the series article would be a discussion of common gameplay elements. TRTX ^{T / C} 13:04, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

The list (for a Featured List) shouldn't be too heavily dependant on other articles, so, at least as cited for the other lists we brought to FL quality, a short descriptive lead of the gameplay is not inappropriate for this. --MASEM 13:11, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Requesting edit lock

This page is getting out of hand with vandalism. I would like to request a temporary edit lock, so that the vandalism can stop. It is only temporary so that new, valid, information may be added when need be. Something needs to be done about this.

"revolverhead" vs. "Revolverhead"

Wikipedia:Manual of Style (trademarks) includes a section on terms that begin with lowercase letters. The rule is to capitalize the first letter as normal, unless in cases such as eBay or iPod where the next letter is capitalized as well. "Finland Track Pack"

I have found no proof that the Finland Track Pack exists. The source used on the 360 release date is an old reference from DLC released back in 2007. The original edit was made here, and I suspect was a vandal edit. Guitar Hero II Songlist table style?

The Guitar Hero II track list article is much more intuitive, listing the tracks by artist. It also allows for sorting by other criteria. This would easily translate here as folks could sort the list according to Career or Coop Career. It would be a pretty big project, but it could be worthwhile to have the four GH games have a uniform songlist style. I'd recommend using the sandbox to set it up prior to making the changes in the article, however. -- TRTX ^{T / C} 15:30, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

If anyone is interested, I started User:Masem/GHIIIList to sandbox the list conversion, with it being relatively easy. Def Leppard Tracks

Picture removal

People are removing the use of pictures on these lists. I will note that when I worked on getting the other GH setlists through featured lists candidacy, one issue they had was that the lists were rather bland without pictures, so thus by adding free images (as to not bring in non-free use), as long as they were appropriate, did help to make the lists appear better. In the same reasoning here, the images (both free from Commons) are being used to help spruce up this list prior to taking it to FLC. Since they are free, there's nothing wrong with there use compared to if they were non-free images, and they are of notable groups from the game. --MASEM 20:58, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

To me the pictures seem rather out of place. I've seen plenty of Wikilists that are just that... a list. The facts included with the pictures seem more appropriate in the game's main article. Comparred to how the lists looked previously, these are becoming more difficult to navigate and evaluate. At one point, somebody comparred the songlists to a game/movie soundtrack. To that extent, I think we're turning this article into something it's not. If anything, the articles would almost seem more appropriate to be modeled after a CD article. Not quite - an article on an album is an article, not a list, so the focus is not necessarily the tracks on the album but how the album was created and received. In this case, this list is just that, a list; yes, we are approaching it like a discography in that we're making it as easy as possible for a user to see if a song is part of the game while still having the order sorted for the player of the game.

In any case, for featured lists, pictures appropriate to the topic are recommended. Since both pictures are free from commons, there's no non-free issues to worry about, so these would be needed to pass FL for this. --MASEM 13:16, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Understandable. Though I think there's some validity to take elements from a soundtrack article and apply those here. Especially when you have some information such as bands re-recording songs for inclusion, or in the case of Def Leppard releasing a song to a game prior to releasing it commericially. GoW Song

PS3 owners will have a free God of War song available on June 5th.Story here. There's no official word on which song, so I'm not sure how to add it into the new DLC layout. -- TRTX ^{T / C} 12:13, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

The song in-game is credited as "being performed by" God of War II, though developers from Neversoft re-recorded it with electric guitar work, an uncommon element in the God of War music, thus making it longer. I added a link to a video of gameplay from a user on YouTube - An in my opinion very reliable source - to show the fact that it's a re-recording, yet not a "true" master track. DLC Content Count

I've been updating the DLC content to include released track packs (not announced, since they aren't actually available yet). The lead on this list notes that Dream On, Halo MJOLNIR, and the Companion Pack are not counted. My question is, should they be counted? I'm very ambivalent on this issue, but I thought I'd bring it up to see what everyone else thinks. Crazydiamond1to9 (talk) 06:13, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

I found it to be nitpicking in the first place, although I do understand the reasoning. The article currently says "number of available songs" apparently meaning (to me anyway) the number of songs you can get at THIS time. In that interpretation I agree to exclude "Dream On" since that is no longer downloadable (hate them for it btw :P) The Companion Pack should still be available for downloading provided you get a code that hasn’t been used yet, or re-download using your original code (which I assume can be done, I’m not sure however). "Halo MJOLNIR" is still available for download so I see no reason to exclude it for an "available tracks list", this was probably originally done because it wasn’t available for PS3, however with "The End Begins" the numbers are equal again. Adding seperate numbers for Xbox and PS3 versions should clear this up once and for all. Which Im going to do right now (not changing the number itself mind you, just adding the fact that both versions CAN have a different total)

Summarizing: I feel that the Companion Pack should be counted, as well as the Halo theme (probably with a note about it only being available for Xbox 360 and there being a PS3 exclusive game-theme track, "Dream On" should not be counted since it is no longer available for download.

However I think this whole matter can be resolved much simpler, by changing it from an "available for download-list" to a "total numbers available for play-list", or at least making it more obvious that that is what it means. OmikronWeapon (talk) 10:46, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Five track packs in June? Two still to come? (Finland Pack Redux)

Is anyone picking up on this one? The Finland track pack link led me to this little post [1]. If this is found to be a reliable source, or if there’s some other source available, the article states that Activision themselves announced a total of five (I leave that to the Wikipedia experts) shouldn’t the fact that more packs are on the way be added, even though it’s not yet clear which ones? If Motörhead is counted as the first, then Isle of Wright is second and Coldplay is third, meaning at least two more are due this June (not counting "The End Begins" as that is a single and not an actual pack) One of the other two might even actually BE the elusive Finland track pack. Getting this page to FLC

Now that the first three GH game soundtracks are Featured Lists I want to start to get this one to the same point (even though we are continuing to add to it with new trackpacks). In general, this is pretty close without much work, but we need to make sure our sources avoid, if possible, Major Nelson's blog for song release dates (though he is acceptable if that's the only source that says that). My goal is that I want to have the GH series as a Featured Topic after Aerosmith is out but before World Tour, and that just means quality control for most GH articles. --MASEM 18:57, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

DLC release dates should be merged with the song list

I think the DLC release dates should be merged with the song list, like Rock Band. You're just duplicating the track pack names twice. If you merge, the track pack names are only there once. Also, what's the point of having checks for master recordings. It's a waste of a column and would be better suited if you just bolded the names like before. This is something that's been promoted as part of getting the page to FLC status. Personally it feels redundant (as you say). One thing I would like to see is a smaller font size so that the info "seems" more clean than it does now. Free Releases

Would it be worth noting which of the releases where/are given away for free? There were only a few that were free. Let me know what some of the rest of you think, please.

The Halo Theme exclusive to XBox 360 is free.

The God of War 2 Theme exclusive to Playstation 3 is free.

"We Three Kings" by Steve Ouimette is free as a Christmas release for Xbox 360/PS3.

The Dropkick Murphys Track Pack is free for a St. Patricks Day release for Xbox 360/PS3.

I don't think I care for it like this either, since I consider Mobile to be a completely separate game from GHIII. To me, it makes as much sense as Merging 80s with GHII. I think that whomever cleaned up the table got rid of most of the references for the releases of track packs - these need to be included (as there's no original source that lists all released tracks besides us.) Dragonforce DLC

The Dragonforce DLC will reportedly contain the song “Heroes of Our Time” from their newest album “Ultra Beatdown”, as well as the songs “Operation Ground and Pound” and “Revolution Deathsquad” from their album “Inhuman Rampage”. Shouldnt the date be put as september 12 because thats when the album comes out and they have said it will come out the same day

I think if I'm reading this is that the "11 bonus tracks" mentioned are really the Death Magnetic tracks, being a free purchase via the card they will give you as part of the album (so you don't have to pay for it yourself), as opposed to 11 completely new non-Death Magnetic tracks. Well, there are 10 songs on the album. If this for the songs from the album, then what is the 11th song? I'm thinking that you get the 10 songs from the album plus a bonus song.
