Life and Work

After many long road trips with his parents passed reading a stack of dog-eared comics, a lifelong love of the medium was born. Setting aside his mother's mission that he become a priest, and after abandoning a promising career chopping cotton, Salmons went to New York City in 1976 to pursue work in comics. In 1984, his career began in earnest when Larry Hama, an editor at Marvel Comics at the time, showed an interest and took Salmons under his wing to help him develop his storytelling and character development. Work on Savage Sword of Conan and G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero followed soon thereafter. Other notable works include his five issue run on Dakota North for Marvel Comics in 1986-1987, and the four issue mini-series Vigilante: City Lights, Prairie Justice for DC/Vertigo Comics in 1995. In 2000, Salmons produced artwork for the short story "Greetings From Gotham City" that was later featured in the hardcover collection, Batman: Black & White, Vol. 2. Inspired by his fondness for Jack Kirby's art in Tales to Astonish from Marvel Comics, Salmons produced a short tale for the anthology, Captain America: Red, White and Blue (2002, Marvel).

Recently, Salmons announced the pending publication of a new, original comic book mini-series, The Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft, due in 2008-when and if it comes out is anybodys guess.

Born in Rolla, Missouri, Salmons grew up in Casa Grande, Arizona, with stops in New York City and San Francisco. Salmons now lives and works in Los Angeles and has two daughters, Phoebe (http://www.livejournal.com/users/callianthus) and Hannah. [edit]
