Re: round two

hmmm.... Well, while I'd really like to be an admin, I don't know how much of a problem this will be... Also, I haven't been very active lately because of college. Do you think that will be a problem? If you think I could pass, I'll be happy to accept, but I really don't have any idea how well I'd do. Anyway, I appreciate the offer very much and if you think I won't just quick-fail, I'm willing to go for it. Thingg 13:53, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ok. I think I will go for it. I mean, if I fail, I'm no worse off than I am now am I? >_> I'll try to write up the answers to the questions over the weekend. Thanks again for the offer. Thingg 14:06, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
ummmm.... wow. that was fast..... I don't really know what to say. In the very least, I have to say I am greatly humbled by what you said there. I'll start writing the answers to the questions and I'll let you know when I'm done. btw, User:Frank offered to co-nom, so I'll let him know too. Thanks you very, very much. Thingg 15:25, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. You should've had the mop back in April - it's a travesty I got it first =] –xeno (talk) 15:28, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Acceptance

I signed it and forgot to hit save, heh. Done at the same time as you messaged me, and thanks for the support, I appreciate it.  Asenine  17:09, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

heh yea I noticed =) cheers, np. –xeno (talk) 17:10, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help please

Hi Xeno, hope you're well. I wanted to ask a quick question about the CURRENTTIME template. When I add it, yes it displays the right time. But it updates itself infrequently and frankly, that irritates me. Is there anything I can do about it? I have added it on my userpage, if you want to take a quick look at it. Eagerly awaiting your reply, Blooded Edge Sign/Talk 20:37, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I know the only way to do this would be to purge the cache of your page... First time or infrequent visitors to your page will usually be shown the correct time. For yourself, you could enable the clock gadget that will display the time in the top right and also when clicked on, purge the cache of the current page. –xeno (talk) 20:44, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How exactly do I 'purge my cache'? Can you tell me where this button is located please? Blooded Edge Sign/Talk 20:56, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:Bypass your cache for browser-specific instructions. –xeno (talk) 21:03, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for all your help :). Blooded Edge Sign/Talk 21:58, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Special Barnstar
I thought I would give you this, as it is a better way of expressing thanks than mere words. Keep up your great work! Blooded Edge Sign/Talk 22:05, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Time for another look

Click on this → User talk:The Virginian‎. Is this allowed? ...Dave1185 (talk) 01:51, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My two cents: it's not very friendly, but I wouldn't immediately say it's not allowed.  Frank  |  talk  01:56, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • It's your call, guys! Personally, I would only do that IF I was going on a long long vacation but first I would take the courtesy of letting the visitor to my page know that. Like I said, that's just me. I leave it to you guys, have a great weekend! ...Dave1185 (talk) 02:00, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's better than redirecting it to an article, I suppose. Any warnings left there we will have to assume he has seen, regardless of the message. It's certainly not very collegial. –xeno (talk) 12:09, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help.....again....

Can you help me with the statustop template, how do you change it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by SealimMan (talkcontribs) 14:13, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adopt a User

Here is the draft of the message to send out for the update of WP:ADOPT.

Hi there Xeno!
We've noticed that you are in the Adopt-a-User program under Active Adopters. We are currently updating the information for adoptors. If you could, please update your status here. Thanks.

Cheers.--LAAFansign review 17:56, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Signpost

I noticed that the Signpost delivery bot has not been working for the past few weeks. I was wondering if you wanted to get in touch with user:Ral315 to have XenoBot permanently do the sending of the subscription, as it seems to work fine. NuclearWarfare contact meMy work 02:18, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

xenobot can do this but the nature of the signpost seems to tend itself to the editor-in-chief running the bot in the evening after he finishes touching up the dispatch - I am typically only active during the business day. however if he's ok with it going out Tuesday morning, I can do this. –xeno (talk) 13:05, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou

Thankyou for being a pleasure to work with during my time on WP, I really appreciate it. You've even got a mention on my userpage. ;) Lradrama 07:13, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Transclusions of signatures

Hi Xenocidic. I've been working on subst: some transclusions into AfDs. See User:Suntag/AfD transclusions. I followed up a sock puppet account through User:Mr.Z-man/t1 to MfD:User subpages used to subvert Mediawiki limit on signatures. The sockpuppet's transcluded signature has been in the AfD since at least 10 February 2008. There also are other pages in which the sock's signature is transcluded. If transcluded signatures are forbidden, is there (shouldn't there be) a bot that adds subst: in front of signatures? -- Suntag 14:57, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thingg

Great job. Sorry I wasn't there to start the party. --Dweller (talk) 15:53, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not a problem, Frank's co-nom was great, filled in some of the stuff I missed. cheers, –xeno (talk) 15:54, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not a bot

Recently, you undid a thank you on someones talk page because you though I was a bot. I'm a real human being. (goes to put it back)

75.68.103.16 (talk) 16:42, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think you're confused - I didn't undo anything, and my bot was simply leaving a newsletter immediately after your "Thank you". Your Thank you has been archived and can be seen here: User talk:David Fuchs/Archive 19#Martin O'Donnell. –xeno (talk) 16:52, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

??

Why did you do this? The signature function is now broken. Jennavecia (Talk) 02:55, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure? Seems OK to me. J.delanoygabsadds 02:57, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AAU reminder notice

A friendly reminder from the Adopt-a-User project =)
Hey there Xenocidic! This is a friendly reminder to update your status at Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User/Adoptee's Area/Adopters whenever it is appropriate in order to provide new users with the most up-to-date information on available adopters. Also please note that we will be removing adopters who have not edited in 60 days. If you become active again (and we hope you do!) please feel free to re-add yourself. Cheers!
  • Notice delivery by xenobot 14:39, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So what is this message all about. Doesn't make much sense to me. It refers to a page that doesn't need updating on a frequent basis, and I don't have time anyway. Why does the message say "become active again", I am active? Why does the message say "please feel free to re-add yourself", I'm still on it!? mystified. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 14:51, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The "re-add yourself" is for those we've removed for 60 days of inactivity (the preceding sentence). If your status is the same, then great - no action is required. If you don't have time for adopting users, then remove yourself. if you would like to see the motivation for this message, see Wikipedia_talk:AAU#Update. cheers, –xeno (talk) 14:53, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I got ths message too and I'm not inactive, I edited earlier today. There's no need for it to send this out unless the user is inactive- it just makes people go to the adopter's area thinking there's something they forgot to do and not finding anything, and think they're going to be signed off if they don't do whatever it is. It needlessly toys with people's minds.:) You could include a line saying "if nothing has changed, you are still active and wanting to adopt, please ignore this message.' As you can see, I was not the only one slightly confused by it.Sticky Parkin 16:34, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hrm, sorry about that, I'll keep that in mind if we send a similar message in the future. For what it's worth, we are having a handful of people update their status to more accurately reflect their current activity levels which was one of the goals of this blast. –xeno (talk) 16:47, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Note that the tag itself is very much broken for me—text is right under the image. Somewhat annoying. I'm running IE 7 if that's any question. The Jade Knight (talk) 17:13, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yes I see that when loading it in IE... Strange. –xeno (talk) 17:15, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

xenocide against me

I am the foremost expert in the world on Ho-Chunk mythology, at least outside this N. American Indian tribe. There was a stub on this subject that had a short re-written excerpt from my website, so it occurred to me that since there was essentially nothing there, I could perform a service by writing an overview of Ho-Chunk mythology. I had spent three days carefully writing the first three sections of this with an enormous number of footnotes, when some hobbledehoy put in a section extolling the garbage-like ideas of my bitterest academic enemies. Fortunately, only a very small fraction of what I was going to write was entered. I assumed that if this outsider wanted to intrude in the middle of my project, that it would be alright to remove my part of the contribution and give him free rein to do whatever it was that he wanted in pursuing his competing thesis. It makes no sense to me to have a highly scholarly article riddled with severe inconsistencies. That I can't remove my very own contribution is infuriating.

However, the good news is that my lawyer thinks that I have a good position on this. I took material out of my copy writted website with the thought that at some point I could say, "reproduced by permission of the author". However, I hadn't yet gotten around to that when my article was destroyed by an ignoramus intruder. That means that almost all of it violates my own copy-write. Therefore, under the present circumstances, I not only may withdraw it, but I must withdraw it according to your own rules. I resisted these attempts to force me to surrender my writing to the encyclopedia by every means that I could think of. Except one, of course: a lawsuit for copy-write infringement.

I'll make you a deal. I'll accept banishment gladly if you will return to me my own writing out of this STUB (!).

Please contact me by my own email, as this site is pure chaos to me, and I don't think that I will be able to find your response otherwise.
