This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Politicians. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Politicians|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- Note that there are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove links to other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Politicians.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Strong Keep– As an member elected to a sub-national (ie state) assembly, he qualifies under the notability criteria. See WP:POLITICIAN. Adequate sources are available, its just a question of searching properly. The Election Commission of India lists his name, so notability is unchallenged. The article needs a cleanup, but cleanup is not grounds for deletion. =Nichalp «Talk»= 05:56, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]- Can you figure out which constituency he represents? My best guess is that, if he had, whosoever wrote this article would have listed that info, sourced or unsourced. The link that you provided talks about "SHAILENDRA SINGH RAWAT", who seems to be a different man from this one. --GDibyendu (talk) 14:18, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Non-notable, and non-serious, political candidate. Per WP:POLITICIAN, just being an unelected candidate for political office does not confer notability; and no notability apart from his candidature is demonstrated. Wikipedia is not a hustings. Delete. JohnCD (talk) 15:04, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment Non-serious shouldn't be a criterion for exclusion. The UK's Screaming Lord Sutch was never a 'serious' political candidate, but I'd consider him more notable than most of the actual MPs in any given parliament, for example. Now, whether this guy has SLS levels of media coverage is another issue .... MadScot (talk) 19:26, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- You're right, up to a point, but Screaming Lord Sutch was an exception. Generally, a frivolous candidate with no chance of getting in must have less notability than a serious one who might be elected. But the point here is the principle that candidates aren't notable until elected unless they have some independent claim. JohnCD (talk) 20:17, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Keep. Regardless of whether or not his platform can be considered "serious," he is completely legitimate in the sense that he is listed on the New Jersey ballot. He is just as much a candidate as the others (Lance, Stender) who do have Wikipedia entries. Political candidates shouldn't be omitted from encyclopedia entries just because their stance is either controversial or non-traditional. This should remain a service for people doing research, and should apply to voters wanting to make an informed decision.Hdingfield (talk) 04:20, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

- Just because he's on the ballot doesn't mean he's notable, which is the primary concern here. Perhaps you haven't read WP:POLITICIAN or WP:BIO? If you haven't, please do so before replying - the article has to meet at least one of those criteria. As for your concern about controversial candidates, Wikipedia may actually have a bias in favor of controversial candidates, as they are more likely to have been discussed by reliable sources than similarly situated non-controversial candidates. --Philosopher Let us reason together. 05:43, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Delete. I cannot find evidence that his trip to North Korea or his work as a lawyer makes him notable. Some politicians were the subject of coverage in reliable sources when they were students, but I cannot find any evidence that Gershuny was. -- Eastmain (talk) 03:24, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Reviewing Mista-X's rationale for disputing the prod, I have to point out that while Wikipedia does indeed have articles about other unelected politicians, the rule is that those politicians have to meet WP:POLITICIAN — that is, there have to be verifiable reliable sources indicating that the person in question has achieved enough to warrant an encyclopedia article. I'd also love to know where Mista-X gleans that there's ever been a prior keep consensus on this article, since I can't find any record of a prior deletion discussion apart from his own prod disputation. Accordingly, redirect to one of the Marxist-Leninist Party candidates lists. Bearcat (talk) 19:15, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Merge with any of the Marxist-Leninist Party candidate lists. This subject is running in the current election and sources can easily be found on mlpc.ca and the elections Canada website, for starters. Secondly there are lots of sources available just from a google search. --Mista-X (talk) 03:05, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Merge with the appropriate Marxist-Leninist Party candidate list. I'm a bit surprised the article survived as a stand-alone piece for this long. CJCurrie (talk) 03:12, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Merge with any of the Marxist-Leninist Party candidate lists. Gershuny is an established Toronto attorney, and has worked on a number of highly political cases (including ones which have been referenced on Wikipedia). The possible lack of Google results on him does not negate his noteworthiness and mentions in other electronic and non-electronic realms of information. Basically, this should be deleted because it is not notable. I am sympathetic to debating articles, I've been a contributor to a number of them, but this is a blatant attempt to dodge the criteria for notability given on the list of debaters page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_debaters). There is nothing notable about being a "notable" Canadian debater, some of these IVs are small and insignificant, and this is basically a clear glory page that attempts to dodge the extensive discussion and rulings on debater notability. If you have won a world championship or something, fine, you are listed on the list of debaters page, but this is just vanity of no note. by all means, these IVs can have their own pages, that should mostly fit in notability. But to give a page to list all the previous finalists and top performers, for some very average IVs, is for mine a step way too far. To conclude; let the previous winners be noted as a subsection on the page of each IV (assuming the IV is notable), but all these lists of stuff covered elsewhere is just too much JJJ999 (talk) 03:14, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
