Template:Hangon Juan de Velasco y Pérez Petroche was an Ecuadorian Jesuit priest and historian. He is known for his book Historia del Reino de Quito en la América Meridional. The book is important in Ecuadorian history because it mentions an alleged pre-Inca kingdom that existed in what is now Ecuador and is known as Reino de Quito. A picture of Juan de Velasco was in a 1947 60-cent postal stamp of the Ecuadorian postal service [1].

The book Historia del Reino de Quito en la América Meridional is mentioned by several prominent historians such as Federico González Suárez and Misael Acosta Solís.
