Ruby Elzy
Mississipp-born black soprano Ruby Elzy (1908-1943) created role of Serena in George Gershwin's folk opera "Porgy and Bess." She also appeared in films, ("The Emperor Jones," "Birth of the Blues"), on radio and the concert stage.
