Griggs, John William (1849-1927) -- also known as John W. Griggs -- of Passaic County, N.J. Born in Newton, Sussex County, N.J., July 10, 1849. Republican. Lawyer; member of New Jersey state house of assembly; elected 1875; member of New Jersey state senate from Passaic County, 1883-88; delegate to Republican National Convention from New Jersey, 1888; Governor of New Jersey, 1896-98; U.S. Attorney General, 1898-1901. Died November 28, 1927. Interment at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Paterson, N.J.
