Rivière du Poste is a small village located the south part of Mauritius, with a total population of 2,170.[1] It is known for its natural surrounding. The neighbour villages are La Flora (North West), Mare Tabac and Rose Belle ( North East) and Camp Diable and Riviere Dragon in the south of the village.

History

Rivière du Poste is named after the 2nd largest river in Mauritius which cross by the village and seperating it into two district Savanne and Grand Port. The village itsef is distributed into 4 parts: Camp Rabaud (part in savanne district), Camp Siajee, Terrain Maurice and camp Cevrette ( the remaing three found in Grand Port District).

The local Post office opens in 1909 which was before a Railway Station.[2]

The popular attraction is the Pont Rouge (English: Red bridge) which is an old railway track which is now used by pedestrian to cross the river. There are numerous attraction such as waterfalls across the river at different spots. Recently a natural park open its door named as "Domaine Du Post".

There is a bus station located at the west of the village.

Personality

Sarojini Jugnauth, borned in the village with maiden name Bhallah married Sir Anerood Jugnauth on 18 december 1957.

In june 28, 2014, Kushboo Ramnawaj wins the Miss Mauritius 2014 . She won also the title Miss Beach Beauty 2014 and was second and first runner-up for Miss Elegance 2014 and Miss Savanne 2014 respectively. [3]
