The Assyrian homeland or Assyria refers a name of a geographic and cultural region in the Middle East, inhabited traditionally by the Assyrian people. In ancient times, the Assyrian empire peaked in 671BC, expanding from the Nile river in Egypt to Anatolia.
Today, no more then a few counties in Northern Iraq is where the Assyrians make only a slight majority. Do to growing nationlism, there is a growing movement for Assyrian independence.
