Haplochromis welcommei is a threatened species of cichlid endemic to Lake Victoria in Africa. This species reaches a length of 10.5 centimetres (4.1 in) SL.[2] Although considered possibly extinct by the IUCN on the basis that there are no records from Lake Victoria since 1985,[1] the species was recorded during a survey in 1995 in Lake Nawampasa, a small satellite lake of Lake Kyoga,[3] itself connected to Lake Victoria until the completion of the Nalubaale Hydroelectric Power Station in 1954.[4]

It is the only scale-eating cichlid in the Lake Victoria system.[3]
