Template:Cleanupfsr State Road 109 is a state road in Florida located in Jacksonville. It is a south-north route that starts at State Road 13 and ends at Ft. Caroline Road. State Road 109 is known as University Boulevard because it takes motorists directly by Jacksonville University(JU).During the course of its run,State Road 109 intersects with several major city, federal, and state routes, including State Road 13,U.S. Highway 1,Interstate 95,U.S. Highway 90,State Road 10,and State Road 115.

Projects & Controversies

From 2002 to 2005,the City of Jacksonville and neighborhood residents and businesses fought over two proposed intersection flyover projects created by The Better Jacksonville Plan. One proposed flyover project was at the intersection of State Road 109 and State Road 10,while the other was at the intersection of State Road 109 and U.S. Highway 90.The dispute was caused by the residents' and businesses' concerns that the flyover projects would consume their properties because of the road widening needed for construction and due to eminent domain.Other concerns were over traffic issues and the fact that the flyovers would be eyesores in the communities. As of 2006,the City of Jacksonville has considered alternative solutions to improving traffic congestion at these intersections, such as various at-grade improvements, including road widening, extra turn lanes, and other related options, but both intersection projects remain at a standstill as of August 2006.
