Fortunato Mizzi (1844–1905) was a Maltese lawyer, and founder of the Anti-Reform Party. He is credited with starting the process which eventually led to Malta's independence. The Anti-Reform Party was the forerunner of the Nationalist Party in Malta.[1]

He was a member of the Pro-Italian Maltese community and showed in his political activity strong support toward Italy's Risorgimento and the official use of the Italian language in Malta.[citation needed]

Fortunato Mizzi married Maria Sofia Fogliero de Luna. They had a son by the name of Enrico who later became Prime Minister of Malta.[2]

A bust of Fortunato Mizzi can be seen in the Pincio in Rome.[3]
