Roster

Starting on September 1st, IGN has had a countdown revealing an official member of the game's roster each day. So far they have revealed Santino Marella, Finlay, Beth Phoenix, Kelly Kelly and Shelton Benjamin Kofi Kingston, Mark Henry, John Cena,triple h and the undertaker. As this is confirmed by THQ and easily verified, the article should be updated with the confirmed wrestlers. It's verifiable information which those reading the article would certainly be looking for.--Josh (talk) 23:38, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

While I agree that with these 100% reliable sources, each day, the countdown subject could be added to a roster section, but don't forget that WP has these guidelines that forbid the very concept of abstract thought. Could we add this to the roster part though:

"On September 1, 2008, IGN started they annual countdown for the game. This year, instead of revealing the whole roster on the first day, IGN will announce a new person day by day, starting on Monday and ending on Friday every week up to the games release in November."

I don't see why you would want to do that. It's just not practical and doesn't make sense. It'd be better to add the whole roster, instead of doing it like one day per superstar. I think the rule should stay. --EclipseSSD (talk) 16:53, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

From WP:VG/GL: For unreleased games, vendor sites should not be used as verifiable sources since their date is likely based on their best estimate of when the game is to be out; always look for corroborating statements from reliable sources to confirm these dates. This does appear to be the most legitimate roster leak thus far as the pictures of the superstars officially released by IGN's countdown and the official site of the game itself, www.smackdownvsraw.com, seem to match perfectly with these leaked pics. Reasoning for discouragement of roster lists

Last year, when WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008 was in production, the same thing during this year occurred last year, users wanted to add a roster list, saying it was verified and they couldn't be removed. Soon afterward, this was challenged by human nature, which resulted in a huge edit war over the inserted roster lists, as many people stated that it should be removed for the time being since the game was still being produced and circumstances can arise, such as Chris Benoit, who unexpectedly "died" and WWE asked THQ (who were finished with the game) to remove Benoit and all his movesets, which is why the roster list is discouraged until about a week or 2 before the release of the game.--S_RX 20:51, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Of course we can't, but the thing is, the game is still in production and the people in the game available now can change before release, we have to keep that in mind. No one is saying that the roster list wont be added, we are not a news site to keep people updated on the news of new roster additions, that's the job for IGN and others, we list content already established, like a full roster lists or broad details versus specific wrestlers in the game.S_RX 21:11, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm not doubting that they are real images. The slight problem which arises is that in the past, some wrestler models have been made for games in the series which end up getting scrapped. Big Show/Shamrock/Lawler/Slaughter in SD2, Warrior/Hogan/Sable/Rikishi in HCTP, British Bulldog in 2005, Chris Benoit in 2008 are a few examples off my head of models made but were scrapped in the last minute. I would rather an official announcement from IGN (whose countdown almost matches the additions on the official website's roster) before placing them in. -- Oakster  Talk  19:22, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Roster Options

Based upon the fact that we are never going to have any peace on this article's roster section with the unofficial roster leak that everyone is trying to use as credible source, I move that to avoid inevitable edit wars over reverting the unsourced statements and others adding them back in (just look in the recent history) that we remove the roster section now and add it back in at the end of the roster reveal. Alternatively, we fully protect the article until the game is released, and allow only admins to edit the page so that we do not get unreliable roster edits. You will see in the edit history that twice now an editor has added in a youtube video with pictures of the Divas as a source and I've reverted it, and to avoid an edit war and flaming I'm just going to stop until we come to a general consensus on the roster. So, therefore, I move that we either A) remove the roster list until completed by IGN or B) fully protect the article until the roster is fully complete. I personally feel that option B is the better move, because then we can keep in some useful information. I'm just going to fix the formatting issues in the article now, and then we can decide what to do with the roster. Also, I would like to note that no other source than IGN will be considered a reliable source for the roster reveal (youtube is not considered reliable for this case). I totally agree that if such a roster list is needed then it requires reliable source (namely one that's not derived from the "leaked" roster) but I'm personally against full protection of the article as nothing gets accomplished that way in terms of good edits. Judging from this and a few sections above, I do personally feel we probabily need a new vote with the help of WP:PW and WP:VG of course, on whether the roster stays or not to hopefully get this problem out of the way. -- Oakster  Talk  08:54, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Actually, if you look at the day by day reveal on IGN, next to every wrestler is either a Smackdown, Raw, or ECW logo indicating their brand. Trevor did indeed have a Smackdown logo next to his name (contrast it with Lance Cade, who has a Raw logo next to his).
