Akyem Bosome describes a traditional geo-political entity in Eastern Ghana
Akyen Bosome is the smallest of the three independent states along with Akyem Abuakwa and Akyem Kotoku that forms the Akyem Mansa. This nation state with a non contiguous land mass exists in the Eastern and Ashanti region of Ghana. The capital of the present day nation state of Akyem Bosome is Akyem Swedru, a town with a population of approximately 12,000 people. The native language is Akan
History
Akyem Bosome is a traditional geopolitical entity with a non-contiguous land mass in today's the Eastern and Ashanti / Asante region of Ghana. Its capital town is Akyem Swedru, a town with a population of approximately 10,000 people.
It was founded in 1831 through a purchase of land by Bosompem Ntow II from the Aduasa family of Barima Atwere of Akyem Wenchi, after which the Bosome people then migrated from the area around present day Lake Bosomtwi in Kokofu to take possession of the land.
Other Bosome settlements are: Adiemra, Amantia, Anamaase, Aperade, Babianeha, Brenase, Ofoase. There are also the settlements of Adieto and Yaapisaa at Kokofu, Ehwuren and Atafram, all in the Ashanti Region, that owe allegiance to Akyem Bosome.
The current traditional head of Akyem Bosome is the Omanhene, Nana Owoare Agyekum III. Subordinate to him are the “Adakro”. These are the Ahenfo of the other Bosome settlements.
Politics
Some of the rulers of Bosome where Nana Koragye Ampaw and Nana Oware Agyekum II. Other primary Bosome settlements are : Adiemra, Amantia, Anamaase, Aperade, Babianeha, Brenase, Ofoase.
