Akyem Bosome

Akyem Bosome describes a traditional geo-political entity in Eastern Ghana

Akyen Bosome is the smallest of the three independent states along with Akyem Abuakwa and Akyem Kotoku that forms the Akyem Mansa. This nation state with a non contiguous land mass exists in the Eastern and Ashanti region of Ghana. The capital of the present day nation state of Akyem Bosome is Akyem Swedru, a town with a population of approximately 12,000 people. The native language is Akan

History

Akyen Bosome was founded in 1831 through a purchase of land by Bosompem Ntow II from the Aduasa family of Barima Atwere of Akyem Wenchi. After the acquisition of the land by Bosompem Ntow II, the Bosome people then migrated from the area around present day lake Bosomtwi in Kokofu to take possession of the land.

Politics

Some of the rulers of Bosome where Nana Koragye Ampaw and Nana Oware Agyekum II. Other primary Bosome settlements are : Adiemra, Amantia, Anamaase, Aperade, Babianeha, Brenase, Ofoase. There are also the settlements of Adieto and Yaapisaa at Kokofu and Ehwuren and Atafram all in the Asante region that owe allegiance to Akyem Bosome.
