The following is a list of characters from the Square Enix MMORPG Final Fantasy XI.

Playable characters

As Final Fantasy XI is a MMORPG, characters are created and controlled by the individual adventurers of the game. Every character is uniquely named on each server.

For more information on playable characters in Final Fantasy XI, see Final Fantasy XI.

Non-playable characters

Throughout the game certain non-playable characters (NPC's) play pivotal roles in the development of the storyline in Final Fantasy XI and expansion packs.

Ajido-Marujido

Ajido-Marujido is the "rogue" minister of the Orastery in Windurst and son of the creator of the Cardians. He is always getting himself and the adventurer into trouble as his antics are thoroughly explored throughout the Windurst missions. The adventurer ultimately ends up fighting alongside Ajido-Marujido in combat against the Ace Cardians. Although labeled as unpredictable and a rogue, he cares deeply about Windurst and its future.

While some debate remains, Ajido-Marujido is generally thought to be a dual jobed Black Mage and Red Mage [citation needed].

Aldo

Aldo is head of the Tenshodo in Jeuno, and brother of Verena. He is a reoccurring figure in Rise of the Zilart and Chains of Promathia missions and he also appears in the Magicite mission (Rank 5). He appears frequently in storylines which also involve the Archduke of Jeuno because he is suspicious of the Archduke, especially after Verena disappears. He appears in Chains of Promathia to aid Prishe after she is stranded far from Tavnazia by a Battle Airship. Though he and Prishe have no prior association, Prishe demands his help in the name of his dead father - whose help in returning her home she had originally hoped to secure.

Altana

Altana is the Dawn Goddess and creator of Vana'diel. It is said that she created the Zilart, but once they were destroyed, she cried five tears down on the world that resulted in the creation of the five races: Hume, Elvaan, Mithra, Tarutaru and Galka. The Twilight god Promathia resented this, and created evil monsters that would seek to destroy Altana's creations. Promathia also cursed each of the five races with one negative trait each, for example, the Elvaans became arrogant. She does not appear in the game, but is very often mentioned and is the central character for the religion in Vana'diel, represented by the San d'Orian Cathedral. At the end of Chains of Promathia, Altana actually appears in some form. When the battle against Promathia reaches its peak, a burst of light shots down on him and he can hear Altana's voice. Then Promathia and his rage are gone.

Bahamut

Unlike his namesake's other appearances in Final Fantasy titles, XI's Wyrmking Bahamut, conqueror of the skies, is not a summonable creature. However, he is a terrestrial avatar along with Phoenix, Diabolos, Fenrir, and Carbuncle. His first appearance is in the very first cutscene of the Chains of Promathia expansion, as the adventurer first reaches Delkfutt's Tower. He appears before Wolfgang and the other ducal guards with a warning that something big will engulf the world soon. He also appears later in the storyline in the form of an assault. Adventurers are also able to face Bahamut in a special battlefield.

Carbuncle

File:Ffxicarbuncle.jpg
Carbuncle alongside his happy Tarutaru master.

Carbuncle is a terrestrial avatar, which are powerful beings usually in control of a specific element. Carbuncle appearance resembles that of a cat-fox hybrid. The story of Carbuncle begins with the adventurer receiving Carbuncle's Ruby, a rare item obtained from certain leech-type monsters. If the adventurer takes it to the House of the Hero in Windurst Walls where a summoner once lived, he will be awarded with a cutscene with either Ajido-Marujido or the Cardian Joker (depending on choices made in the game). The ruby tells the adventurer to gather the "seven colors of light" which is actually seven of the weather effects in the game. Upon seeing all these effects, the ruby shatters and Carbuncle appears before the adventurer to which he tells them to see him in La Theine Plateau. When the certain point is found (a circle of stones near the Ephemere), Carbuncle appears again and tells about the other avatars in the world, and that they are sleeping and want to be awakened. Carbuncle proposes that they do this together, and the adventurer is now a Summoner with the ability to summon Carbuncle.

Carbuncle traditionally appears in other Final Fantasy titles as summon. His main purpose was to cast protective magic like Protect, Shell and (most often) Reflect on the party.

Chebukki Brothers

Cid

Cid is a Hume who resides and owns a laboratory in the Republic of Bastok. Cid plays a key role in many Bastok quests and missions. He takes a more prominent role in the Chains of Promathia expansion pack and begins to develop his own version of the Jeuno airship. He also helps the adventurer work with Prishe and the others to try to intervene with Bahamut's assault. Cid is a recurring character in the Final Fantasy series, usually playing a very different role in each game.

Princess Claidie

Princess Claidie is the daughter of King Destin and youngest child. She is also Prince Trion and Prince Pieuje's younger sister. She frequently visits her deceased mother's grave and usually thinks about her coming of age ceremony. During her ceremony, a mysterious elvaan named Rochefogne appeared and told the king he knew what the king had planned for the "special sword" and for him as well. As quick as he had come he left. Later while at her mother's grave an orc appeared and tried to hurt Claidie. But one of the three assassins that the King had hired to kill Rochefogne (The king's plan) saved her. Claidie screamed at him for killing Rochefogne but asks him to listen to her... In the church was where the Lightbringer (the "special" sword) was being unsheathed. Trion had the sword and was about to unsheath it when the assassin appeared and grabbed Claidie and held a sword to her throat and threatned to hurt her. The assassin wasn't the assassin though...it was Rochefogne! He had survived the assassin's attack! Claidie's oldest brother threw the sword to Rochefogne but found it to be fake. Trion unsheathed the real sword and the ground shook. Trion dropped the sword and orcs burst in the cathedral and stole it. Claidie's brothers and some soldiers went to Fei'Yin to retrieve the sword from the orc leaders. They got the sword and returned home. Claidie was overjoyed as the heroes laid the sword in the dragon king's tomb (King Ranperre) Now that the sword was away from her quarreling brothers Claidie can finally relax.

Cornelia

One of two female Hume characters of Bastokan descent who are both involved in the Bastok line of missions and concerned with the fair treatment of the Galka race. One is alive during the timeframe of the game and the other died on the infamous Northlands Expedition two generations ago.

The living Cornelia is the daughter of the President of Bastok who plays roles in several quests centered around the Galka race and appears in some of the Bastok Mission assignment cutscenes. She is friends with several Galka and hopes to improve the race relations between Hume and Galka.

The deceased Cornelia was a Bastokan representative on the Northlands Expedition. She attempted to prevent the racial hate motivated murder of Raogrimm, the Galkan talekeeper and Galkan representative on the Expedition, by a Hume named Ulrich but this resulted in her dying along with Raogrimm. Raogrimm later reincarnated and died again, saying her name and seeing her reaching for him as he does so. Cornelia also appears before the adventurer later pleading for help on behalf of Raogrimm. This leads to the dimensions of Dynamis.

Both the deceased and living Cornelias are seen in the Monk Artifact Armour series of quests.

Lady Curilla

Curilla is the leader of the Temple Knights of Chateau d'Oraguille in San d'Oria. She plays an important part in the Red Mage Artifact Armor quests, a quest that centers around her deceased father who was a powerful Red Mage at the royal court. She is also the quest-giver for the "Savage Blade" sword weaponskill quest. Curilla has been Prince Trion's sparring partner since she was twelve years old and at present, she is arguably the most skilled swordsmaster in all of Vana'diel (with Prince Trion ranking second, Archduke Kam'lanaut in third, Tenzen as fourth, and General Wolfgang rounding off the top-five list.

Due to an accident while competing against Prince Trion in the finals of the highly prestigious "Sword Tournament", she damaged one of her eyes. Having perfectly mastered the art of the 'Savage Blade' she had intended to use it as her finishing move against her childhood friend Trion... and at the last second, had avoided making the hit when she realized how intense the force was involved. The force was so powerful that it shattered her blade, and one of it's shards pierced her eye. She considers it a punishment for longing to hear the crowd chant her name in glory; and surprisingly, she also considers herself to be ugly as well (due to her disfigured eye)... problem is, everyone who meets her is awe-struck by her magnificent red-headed beauty; a beauty that the entire world sees... except her. It has baffled many people as to why she continues to see herself as ugly; yet none would dare drum up the courage to ask her... especially since she is considered as the greatest swordsmaster in Vana'diel. There are also heavy rumours that she has a secret admirer in Prince Trion of the royal family.

Despachiaire

King Destin

King of San d'Oria. Father of Prince Trion, Prince Pieuje and Princess Claidie. Involved in many parts of the San d'Oria Missons.

Diabolos

Diabolos is found in The Shrouded Maw and appears in the Chains of Promathia missions. He reveals that the various Dynamis dimensions are his creations, and he exists in some dream-like state. He must be defeated in order to progress with the story. Diabolos has the ability to make certain floor-panels disappear during battle, which can cause major frustration for the adventurers. If the adventurer falls down, he will get killed by the monsters lurking there. The December 2005 version update introduced Diabolos as an avatar that could be summoned. In order to do so, a quest had to be activated after Diabolos was initially defeated. The Tarutaru Kerutoto in Windurst Waters reveals that Diabolos is terrorizing her in her dreams. She gives the adventurer an item and sends him off to remove the threat. Defeating Diabolos again activates him as an avatar.

Eald'narche

File:Ealdnarche.jpeg
Eald'narche, the final boss of the Rise of the Zilart.

Eald'narche is the older brother of the Archduke of Jeuno, Kam'lanaut. Both are Zilart princes and made several efforts to open the Gate to the Gods. When his younger brother was defeated, he showed no sympathy towards him and referred to him merely as a puppet for the things to come. Eald'narche strongly believed that what he did was the right thing, and even after he was defeated, he attempted to destroy all life. Eventually, he realized his errors and when it was almost too late, Lion sacrificed herself to finally end his evil scheme (in the cut scene after you win ZM-17). The Rise of the Zilart expansion ended after the defeat of Eald'narche, thus beginning the Chains of Promathia storyline (which actually is available without completing the Rise of the Zilart).

Esha'ntarl

Fenrir

Fenrir is the guardian of the moon and tomorrow among the terrestrial avatars. To get the summon, you must defeat the six (6) other avatars: Titan, Leviathan, Garuda, Ifrit, Shiva, and Ramuh (not Diabolos, the newest addition to the series), and have the "whisper" from those battles in your key items to get a "moon bauble," which lets you enter the battlefield for Fenrir in Toraimarai Canal, from Leepe-Hoppe in Windurst. The fight is much more difficult than the others. Most parties take a ninja (NIN) tank and Black Mage (BLM) or Summoner (SMN) for damage. White and/or Red Mages round out a party of 6.

Fenrir also is an important figure in the Windurst Missions concerning Full Moon Fountain, the origins of summoning magic, and the forecastings of the Star Sibyl.

Gilgamesh

Gilgamesh is the pirate leader of Norg and also the father of Lion. He is seen during the Rise of the Zilart missions and for the Samurai flag and artifact quests.

Grav'iton

A Tonberry who harbors memories of ancient times. He is the central figure of the Temple of Uggalepih mission in the Rise of the Zilart expansion. He can be found in the Burning Circle area of the Den of Rancor where adventurers confront him in combat. He details the history of the Zilart attempt to open the door to the realm of the gods and that of the Kuluu attempt destroy the Zilart and halt their attempt. But first the adventurer must fight him, of course.

Jakoh Wahcondalo

The current chieftainness of Kazham. Jakoh Wahcondolo was first a resident of Tavnazia, but with her mother's help, escaped at the onset of war, only to have the ship she was on capsize. She eventually washed up in Norg and was taken under Gilgamesh's wing. When the pirates of Norg had a territorial dispute with the Mithra of Kazham, Jakoh stepped up to duel and defeat a Kazhamite warrior. This so impressed the then-chieftainness Romaa Mihgo that the cheiftainness asked that, as a condition of the truce with the pirates, Wahcondolo become a citizen of Kazham. Upon Mihgo's retirement, Wahcondalo took her place as chieftainness and since then, has vastly improved Kazham's standing amongst the powers of the world.

Archduke Kam'lanaut

File:Kam'lanaut wiki.JPG
Kam'lanaut Archduke of the Grand Duchy of Jeuno

Kam'lanaut is one of the two remaining Zilart princes. He is the younger brother of Eald'narche, although he looks older due to the fact that Eald'narche came into contact with one of the five Mothercrystals, though it is not explained which of the five he came into contact with. Kam'lanaut came to power through trickery and deception. He gained the trust of Vana'diel when he introduced the power of crystal engines to power the massive airships of Jeuno and was able to unite the three main countries to defeat the Beastmen army and the Shadow Lord.

When the Shadow Lord's return is imminent, Kam'lanaut orders the adventurer to infiltrate each of the three Beastmen Strongholds to recover an important item called Magicite, which he leads the adventurer to believe will resurrect the Shadow Lord. However, after retrieving the three pieces of Magicite, Kam'lanaut uses them to suit his own sinister agenda.

In the Rise of the Zilart expansion, it is revealed that after the adventurer defeated the Shadow Lord, Kam'lanaut and Eald'narche arrived and used the Magicite to summon the five Crystal Warriors (aka the Ark Angels) and uses them to finish off the Shadow Lord. The five warriors then knock the adventurer out. The basis of the Rise of the Zilart expansion is to prevent Eald'narche and Kam'lanaut from achieving their goal of opening the Gate of the Gods.

After a series of missions, the adventurer is sent to confront the Zilart prince at the very top floor of the Delkfutt's Tower (the Stellar Fulcrum), which is revealed to be where the Crystal Lines connect to send power into Tu'Lia. Kam'lanaut is fought during the eighth Zilart Mission and is defeated with the combined might of the player's character, Lion, Aldo and Zeid (although, neither of those three NPCs actually help in the fight).

As Kam'lanaut lies battered on the floor, Eald'narche arrives with Aldo's sister Verena in tow. Kam'lanaut cries out to his older brother for assistance, but Eald'narche merely laughs at him, saying he was no longer needed now that he could use Verena and the head of the Shadow Lord to awaken Tu'Lia. Eald'narche tells Kam'lanaut to "return to the crystal" and Kam'lanaut's body dissipates.

In the subsequent expansion, Chains of Promathia, the Jeunoan officials do not acknowledge Kam'lanaut or Eald'narche's disappearances, stating that they are away.

President Karst

The elected president of Bastok, Karst plays an important part in the later missions for that nation. He greatly fears the King of San d'Oria, Destin, which is the reason he's always hiding the garbage tower he calls a Presidential Residence...

Lion

Lion is a hume female who appears in a number of cut scenes for quests. She is the adopted daughter of Gilgamesh, pirate leader of Norg. She sacrifices herself (you are lead to believe), during Zilart Mission 17 (ZM-17).

Maat

Maat, believed to be pronounced Muh-aht [citation needed], is the old man located in front of Archduke Kam'lanaut and Lord Eald'narche's living quarters in the back of Ru'Lude Gardens. Maat is the NPC that sends the adventurer out to complete the "Limit Break" quests which start once a character reaches level 50 and are required to be completed every 5th level until one reaches level 70. At level 70, the adventurer is required to fight Maat in a one-on-one Burning Circle match with no subjob. If successful, the adventurer will be able to reach the game's current cap of level 75, unhindered. He also rescured Kam'lanaut and Eald'narche many years ago.

Maat is though to be named after the Egyption goddess of truth, law and universal order, Maàt.

Dr. Monberaux

Apparently the only medicinal doctor in Jeuno, Monberaux resides in the Infirmary in Upper Jeuno. He is an Elvaan of strong character and respected among the citizens of Jeuno. He aides in the reconstruction of the cardian known as "Two". Also, he is the best friend of the lead Ducal Guard Wolfgang, although recent events have made Wolfgang hostile towards his friend. After Chains of Promathia begins, the mysterious boy that is found (who is later to be known as Selh'teus) is taken to Monberaux's clinic for care, but he escapes and gives the adventurer a pendant. Monberaux appears again later in the Promathia story.

Papsque Muchavatte

Papsque Shamonde

The head of the Grand Cathedral in the Kingdom of San d'Oria. He took over following the death of Papsque Muchavatte. He is involved in the San d'Oria storylines and is rumoured to be on good terms with the shadowy Brugaire consortium trading company.

Nag'molada

First believed to be a Zilart, Nag'molada is later revealed to be a Kuluu by the wyrmking Bahamut. He is currently investigating the Emptiness and the Mothercrystals when the adventurer shows up. Together (after successfully completing Promyvion Holla, Mea and Dem) he and the adventurer are transported to the island of Tavnazia which was believed to be lost after the Great War twenty years ago. The both of the adventurers are engaged in the mysteries there and somehow team up to learn the secrets.

Naja Salaheem is the President of the Salaheem Sentinels, a mercinary organization in the kingdom of Aht Urghan.

Nanaa Mihgo

Nanaa Mihgo is a thief who resides in Windurst Woods. She is constantly pursued by the Star Onion Brigade (S.O.B.s) as she continues her plans to steal treasure. If the adventurer is doing missions for Windurst, he must travel to Nanaa Mihgo's secret hideout beneath the Horutoto Ruins to reclaim the stolen Book of the Gods. Upon getting there, Nanaa Mihgo and her two sidekicks threaten to rob the adventurer, but he is saved when Ajido-Marujido appears and rescues them all from the feral Cardians known as the "Aces". Nanaa Mihgo gives fame in Norg, which is required to unlock Leviathan, do Ninja scroll quests, et cetera. Nanaa Mihgo is also the central NPC in the Thief Artifact Armor quest as she attempts to recover the treasure of a legendary Thief.

Prince Pieuje

Prince Regent of the Kingdom of San d' Oria. Trion's brother, who unlike him doesn't like warfare and other violent means. He plays an integral part in the quests for the White Mage Artifact Armor, where he hopes that (with the player's help) the rebellion of the dead Tavnazians can be solved without a war breaking out. The final White Mage quest has the adventurer fighting Altedour I Tavnazia, who was once a great leader and someone Prince Piejue have some relation to. Much is learned about Piejue through the San d'Oria missions, and at one point, when talking to some kids in town, the adventurer hear Trion calling his brother Piejue scheming.

Prishe

Prishe is the central character of the Chains of Promathia storyline. Although she is considered to be the leader of the Tavnazia Safehold, the survivors of the destroyed Marquisate of Tavnazia, she is called the "Abhorrant One" due to her strange curse, which prevents her from aging or feeling pain. She recieved this curse long ago from a baptism ritual that went wrong. She appears and often acts like an Elvaan child, and has one of the foulest mouths on Vana'diel. She is also best friends with Ulmia, another prominent character in the Promathia storyline. During the Promathia plot, Prishe finds herself connected to the mysterious boy Selh'teus through her mysterious amulet, which is identical to the one Selh'teus possessed. She is also one of the possible "Keeper of the Apocalypse" mentioned during the Promathia storyline, which causes her to be a target for many enemy factions. Prishe battles alongside your character in the final battle against Promathia himself, and possesses many of the best abilities of both the Monk and White Mage classes, including Hundred Fists and Benediction.

Promathia

File:Promathia.jpg
The Empyreal Paradox and Promathia. Prishe and Selh'teus can also be seen to the left and right respectively.

The Twilight God, Promathia, is considered to be the evil counterpart of Altana, the Dawn goddess. Throughout the course of the game, he is vaguely mentioned, as he is evil and people won't come to terms with his existence and his will to destroy the world in the past. In the Chains of Promathia expansion, however, there is a much larger focus on this deity and his antics, and through these series of missions, the adventurer find a way to the Empyreal Paradox, where one finds the evil god himself. In this location, the adventurer will witness memories of the birth of Vana'diel, and along with Prishe and Selh'teus, the adventurer must fight Promathia as he is the final boss of the expansion disc.

Raogrimm

The Galkan Talekeeper. He mysteriously disappears from society and has been unheard from. At the end of mission 5 for any nation, the Shadowlord is revealed as Raogrimm.

Selh'teus

The name for the Enigmatic Youth, who appears to the players at the start of the Chains of Promathia storyline. Selh'teus joins the fight against the final boss Promathia in the Chains of Promathia expansion.

Semih Lafihna

Semih Lafihna is the highest ranking Sybil Guard of Windurst. The adventurer encounter her at many points during the adventures. She is extremely skilled at archery, and it is learned that she left Kazham, an outpost-town claimed by the Mithra, to serve Windurst. She is very suspicious of the Orastery minister Ajido-Marujido, but in the end, she helps him and the adventurer to stop the Cardian rebellion.

The Shadow Lord

File:Shadowlord.jpg
The Shadow Lord, the original final boss.

The Shadow Lord was the dreaded leader of the Beastmen who led them into war twenty years ago, as portrayed in the game's opening movie. As a result of this, the proud nation of Tavnazia was completely destroyed, but the Shadow Lord was struck down and sealed in his very own Castle Zvahl in Xarcabard. Four seals were placed upon his tomb, three seals for each respective nation and an extra seal in the ruins of Fei'Yin in Beaucedine Glacier. When the adventurer reaches a certain point in doing missions for their nation, they will come to realize that the Shadow Lord is being resurrected and that this must be stopped. Ultimately, one learn that the effort is futile and the only way to stop this is to journey to the Castle Zvahl and witness whatever is happening there. Upon reaching the Throne Room, the Shadow Lord comes back to life, filled with hatred. The Dark Knight Zeid reveals that this Lord is truly the Galkan Talekeeper Raogrimm. He curses Zeid for his faith in adventurers and the world, and immobilizes him, telling him to watch as he crushes the adventurer he brought. The adventurer succeeds in breaking the dark spell, turning Raogrimm back to himself again. As they prepare to leave all of this behind, Archduke Kam'lanaut and his brother Eald'narche appear and tell them how they've fooled everyone and that the Zilart will rise again. Then they release the five ancient Crystal Warriors (also known as Ark Angels) and Raogrimm turns back into the Shadow Lord and sacrifices himself to allow the rest of the adventurers to escape. After these events, the Rise of the Zilart expansion starts. Much later, it is learned that Raogrimm still lives in some form, although he is banished to live forever in the nightmare dimensions of Dynamis. After reaching lv 65 and entering Xarcabard, the adventurer is contacted by Cornelia's ghost and told to enter these dimensions in order to help Raogrimm.

The Star Sybil

The Star Sybil is the great Tarutaru leader of Windurst. She resides in the Vestal Chamber in the Heavens Tower which is located in Windurst Walls. Only high ranking adventurers are allowed to see her. She has complete trust in her Mithra guard Semih Lafihna. The Star Sybil is blessed with the ability to read the stars in order to predict the things to come. She sees the adventurer being destined to fight the Shadow Lord. She is not a character of many words, yet those words she utter are heartfelt. Later, the menace behind the rebellion of the Ace Cardians causes the Star Sybil to lose her premonition powers and she sets off to the Full Moon Fountain to call upon Fenrir along with Semih Lafihna, Ajido-Marujido and the adventurer. After a hectic battle against the Aces, Windurst is once again safe, although Fenrir tells the Star Sybil that her powers are gone.

Tenzen

A mighty samurai who hails from the far east. He carries a blade with the power of Phoenix which guides him and us through the Promathia missions. He was sent by his liege to discover the cause of the strange event known as the Emptiness, which has been slowly eating away at his homeland.

Prince Trion

File:Trion.jpg
Prince Royal Trion the First, Prince Royal of House D'Oraguille (his official royal title)

Prince Royal of the kingdom of San d' Oria, first born child of King Destin and Queen Leaute of the highly aristocratic House D'Oraguille, the royal dynasty that has ruled the Elvaan kingdom of San d'Oria for over half a millenia. Trion is currently the overall leader and Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Knights of San d'Oria and is the most likely candidate to succeed his father King Destin as the next Monarch of San d'Oria (after King Destin would have passed on). He plays a vital role in the San d'Orian Mission quests and is a central figure in the final showdown with the Orcish race. Many also believe him to be a true embodiment of what the royal House D'Oraguille should represent; which only adds to his strengths as the more favourable candidate to become the next king. Although some of the populance (mainly the Pro-Piejue factions) consider him to be immature, rash, impatient and unfit to rule; a much larger majority of the Elvaan see him as possessing the fiery energy needed to help return San d'Oria to its peak prominence in the Vana'diel world affairs.

Prince Trion is known for his cold, ruthless, aggressive, yet brilliantly keen methods of warfare; which, though considered as violent by his younger brother Prince Pieuje, has earned him the unparralled respect and loyalty of the Royal Knights of San d'Oria. As a matter of fact, General Lord Rahal (Trion's second-in-command within the Royal Knights); Lord Excenmille (San d'Oria's Conflict Director and Trion's Dragon-Knight of the San d'Orian Northernland regiments); and several of Trion's top-ranking Captains describe the prince as "...truely the most capable warrior I would rather have at my side on ANY battlefield".

Unlike his younger brother Pieuje who is more scholarly and deftly inclined towards the political manueverings of the royal court, Trion has very little patience for long windy speeches and is very famous for speaking his mind in a clear yet scathing manner. It is said all over the realm that Trion always rides at the head of his armies when marching into battle; and this is confirmed when even his father gives his blessings for his eldest son to ride at the helm of the San d'Orian forces during their final war with the Orcish race. This is seen in the final San d'Orian mission where the King asks the player to constantly be at his son's side during these battles (a party of six level 70+ is highly recommended); and as one progresses through the quest, players realise that Trion was so intensly ferocious during these final wars with the Orcs that he decimated them all the way to their last stronghold at the arctic northern ruins of Fei'yin. The reason for Trion's barely contained rage was very valid... mainly because he felt somehow responsible for allowing the Orcs to breach the capital's defence (a blame that is heavily misplaced and was definitely not his fault, but his sheer arrogance continues to make him believe otherwise until after the war)

Prince Trion has been an excellent swordsman since he was only eleven years of age, and the royal family had to constantly find sparring partners for him (most of whom were several years older than him)... until they found his match in Lady Curilla. At the time, twelve year old Curilla (a year older than the then eleven year old Trion) had only two things in life that she loved... her father (who was a powerful Red-Mage at the royal court) and her swords. Once it was realized that she was a match for Prince Trion's skills, she became not only his new sparring partner but his very close friend; a bond of true friendship that has lasted till this very day. More importantly, Prince Trion is regarded as the second-greatest swordsman in Vana'diel... second only to his beloved Lady Curilla, the only person who can better Trion in one-on-one battle.

At the beginning of the Treasures of Aht Urhgan story-arch, Prince Trion snuck out of his homeland (the Kingdom of San d'Oria) in order to spy on the Empire of Aht Urhgan. He supposedly gives up his duty-vows as a knight of San d'Oria, and takes up the identity of a mercanary within the ranks of the Salaheem Sentinels.

Ulmia

Prishe's closest friend and companion, Ulmia is a young Elvaan woman known for her magnificent voice. She lived in the remains of the Marquisate of Tavnazia, the Tavnazia Safehold, until the events of the Chains of Promathia storyline, where she plays a prominent role. The song that she sings, the "Lay of the Immortals", serves as a catalyst to the events in the Promathia plot.

Verena

Aldo's younger sister who is good friends with the goblins residing in Jeuno. She wishes to stop all tensions between beastmen and the citizens of Vana'diel.

Volker

Volker is the nephew of the previous commander of the Mythrill Muskateers the elite military unit of the Republic of Bastok. Following his uncle's death he took command of the MythrilL Muskateers and remains their current leader. When the Shadow Lord was defeated twenty years ago at the conclusion of the Great War the Dark Knight Zeid another member of the Mythrill Muskateers delivered the finishing blow however Volker took credit for it. Finally Zeid re-amerged and confronted Volker as well as a number of Adventurers but was defeated.

Wolfgang

Wolfgang serves under the Arch'duke of Jeuno in the heart of Vana'diel. Although he is brave and sometimes has a short temper, he is often called a "wanna-be Paladin".

He is involved quite heavily in the Chains of Promethia storyline.

Yve'noile

Zeid

The Galkan Dark Knight, Zeid sees the adventurers' potential to learn the arts of the Dark Knight. He is also encountered near the end of the Shadow Lord storyline, but he was forced to watch the adventurer take on the evil lord without his intervention.
