Andrew Jackson James (June 14 1817 – April 4 1883) was an American lawyer and representative, who served as Attorney General of Kentucky and served as Secretary of State of Kentucky. Before becoming Attorney General, he served as a representative of Pulaski County, Kentucky.
Early Life
Andrew Jackson James was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky, Near Somerset on June 14, 1817. His father was Daniel F. James and his mother was Eleanor James. Andrew James had three brothers and five sisters.
Education
At fifteen, James was placed clerk of Pulaski County until he was twenty-one. He then began his law practice in Somerset. He was a candidate for elector for Martin Van Buren in 1840.

He married Mary A. Beattie on March 16, 1841. The couple had six children. Two of his sons, John and Daniel James, were also attorneys.
