Ngô Đình Luyện was a brother of South Vietnam’s first President, Ngô Đình Diệm, and of Archbishop Ngô Đình Thục. Ngô Đình Diệm appointed him as ambassador to the United Kingdom. His two brothers Ngo Dinh Nhu and Ngo Dinh Diem were killed on November 1, 1963 during a military coup. Luyen was able to escape assassination because he was in London at the time.
