Charles Gumery

Charles-Alphonse-Achille Gumery (1827-1871) was an academic French sculptor, winner of the Prix de Rome in 1850, and one of the most famous sculptors of the Second Empire. Gumery died as the result of the events of 1871[clarification needed] and is buried in Montmartre Cemetery, under his bust sculpted by his own student Jean Gautherin.
Work in Paris includes:
- the gilded figural groups L'Harmonie and La Poesie on top of Palais Garnier
- Circe on the south façade of the Cour Carrée in the Louvre palace, 1860
- the figure of Amsterdam at the Gare du Nord, circa 1846
