The BBC website also states that the boy's father Philip Peak "is in hospital in a serious but stable condition with fractures to his neck and back, broken ribs, bruising and swelling to his lungs" and not "minor injuries" as stated on the Wikipedia page. There's a general trend amongst the police and paramedics etc to NOT use the word accident. Accident implies that no-one is to blame (wholly or in part), which may or may not be case. Collision is neutral, neither blaming anyone nor absolving anyone of responsibility. (jon B; Sun 8th June)

The BBC article referenced says that the player arrested is believed to be McCormick. The article here says categorically that it is him, which is not quite the same thing.
