Gheorghe Popescu (born August 8, 1919 in Bucharest, Romania) was a Romanian football player and also a manager. He begun his career at 14 years. He used to play as a left back.
As a player, Gheorghe Popescu I won, in 1949, the Romanian Cup . He won 5 caps for Romania national football team.
- Not to be confused with Gheorghe Popescu, Romanian footballer, born 1967.
Managerial Career
Gheorghe Popescu was a successful manager, training in his career only two teams : Steaua and Romania national football team. With Steaua, he won 4 times the National Championship (1951, 1952, 1953, 1959-1960) and also 3 times the Romanian Cup (1951,1952, 1959-1960). After retiring from managerial career, he was the President of Romanian Football Federation and the vice-president of Steaua.
