Dale Thomas (born 21 June, 1987; guernsey number 13) is an Australian Rules footballer playing his first season in the Australian Football League. He was pick number two overall in the 2005 NAB AFL Draft, and was recruited to the Collingwood Football Club as a result.

Career prior to AFL recruitment

The 182cm tall Thomas was recruited to Collingwood from Gippsland Power, a club competing in the TAC Cup competition. Thomas aided Gippsland to win the 2005 TAC Cup premiership, gathering twenty disposals and booting four goals. As well as this best on ground performance, Thomas also gained a position in the TAC Cup Team of the Year, as well as a place in the All-Australian under 18's team.

Fitting into AFL life

Dale Thomas debuted into the AFL in Round One of the 2006 Home and Away Season, in Collingwood's clash against Adelaide. Thomas suprised the football world as he gathered 16 possessions and kicked two goals as a rookie of the top-level AFL. In Collingwood's Round Two win against Hawthorn, Thomas again stunned the critics, gathering twenty possessions and gaining nomination for the 2006 AFL Rising Star award, an annual award recognising the talents of first-year AFL players.
