Maternus I was according to legend the first bishop of [[Cologne]]. There is no contemporary evidence of him. |

These legends identify Maternus as the son of the widow of Nain who was raised from the dead by [[Jesus]]. This is reported in the New Testament, but no name is there given fro the son. He is believed to also have served as an early bishop of [[Trier]]. |
