On [[1930]], a fight with Scrooge ended all relationships between him and his family and she retired. According to [[Don Rosa]], Matilda McDuck went back to tending the McDuck castle in Scotland. She was hired for this job by her nephew [[Donald Duck]] in his capacity as Scrooge McDuck's assistant, but without Scrooge's knowledge. She was still alive in the 1950's, as shown in the story "The Old Castle's ''other'' Secret." This story shows the reconciliation between Matilda and Scrooge. It is suggested that Donald deliberately set them up for a reunion. This is the first time Huey, Dewey and Louie met their great aunt. In that story, Scrooge returns to [[castle]] McDuck for another treasure and learns from Matilda his family already knew about the treaure but their father, [[Fergus McDuck]] decided not to tell Scrooge about it. Both Scrooge and Matilda thought that was because of Fergus's [[disapproval]] of Scrooge's greedy ways but after finding a letter on the way for the treaure (hence the other title "A [[Letter]] from home") they learn Fergus's real motive was the fact he thought Scrooge would feel better building his own fortune instead of simply inheriting one. |
